I had an eight hour online course on cost accounting today, my brain is mush but I still need to pack for the short family trip this weekend. If not for that I would play some more Minecraft this evening but instead I thought I could finally post some more notes.

I went back to exploring. I got over a stack of blue orchids in a swamp and when I saw several frogs there I decided to finally breed some, meaning I stayed up to hunt slimes in a swamp at night (also for the first time, I think.) Not that successful, I only found one, but thanks to Looting I still got sixteen slime balls. The frog breeding was interrupted by a creeper exploding my frogs but I got four tadpoles in buckets so I decided to call it successful and stop there.

After a brief stop back at home base – I'm becoming a lot more comfortable using elytra, which is very convenient – I went back to exploring, finding a second(!) pink sheep on the way. I stopped by the first stronghold I originally found and found a large library there that I'd overlooked. Then I went to the End and this time I found three more elytra, feels good to have more spares just in case. I'm finally less afraid of looking at an endermen, too. I felt very confident until I realized I was very far out and was running out of rockets with no end gateway in sight… I couldn't even be fully happy when I finally found the Spire armor trim - until I realized I had another stack of rockets in my ender chest. Go me! Clearly now it was all smooth sailing. Aaand then I got hit by a shulker bullet, failed to navigate over a structure or use my rockets, and promptly died of fall damage. Aaargh. Fortunately I'd put all my finds in my ender chest and written down the coordinates of the city!

I'd also remembered to put my second ender chest next to my bed so I could get back home quickly after respawning. I started putting things away and preparing to gear up again and get my stuff, but then I got distracted by the sudden idea of turning the land bridge between the island my base is on and the tree&sniffer-island into a bee tunnel. Blue orchids, azure bluets, and alliums, and crafted bee hives this time, and glass around it. The glass tunnel wasn't the original plan but well bees are dumb and kept flying away over the lake, hopefully this will deter them at least a little. Once I breed enough bees I'll have over thirty hives there and then I'll be able to get honey much quicker. Only downside, I was planning to still run across the land bridge but now with the glass and the bee hives it feels cramped so I have to run over it.

I also thought I finally identified the slime chunk in the big cave under my base. I knew there had to be one because I'd seen slime before but only very rarely. Now it makes sense because the chunk I think it is barely had any unobstructed 2x2 spaces. Except then it turned out I was wrong again… Next try.

I decided to finally go back to the End and collect my stuff from when I died. I found it, collected it, decided to raid the End City there – and almost immediately died again, this time from a bunch of shulker bullets. Uuugh. (I miiight have forgotten to switch my elytra for a chestplate, that probably contributed. I'm so annoyed.) And this time it will be harder to collect because the stuff in lying in a room with shulkers, not outside on the ground, so I will have to kill them as quickly as possible before it all despawns… Maybe finally time for some golden apples? Or potions? I'm not really looking forward to it tbh.

I'm really thinking about turning on keepInventory. That'd make me so much less nervous about raiding End cities and exploring the nether and the Deep Dark. Except it turns out you can't do that permanently on a single player Java world, which is annoying. Maybe instead I will build a cactus XP farm in the spawnchunks to make re-gearing less painful.

At this point Hades 2 came out in Early Access so I spent quite some time playing that, then I came back to Minecraft when 1.21 came out. I immediately made some copper grates and a door because they're pretty, though I don't really know where to use them yet. Then I made an autocrafter and decided to use it to automatically craft dried kelp into blocks. Turns out an autocrafter needs a signal every time to activate, you can't just put a redstone block next to it. Hmmm.

I did a little of redstone experimenting, but quickly got bored of it. Instead, inspired by what DD and I did on our SMP, I started building a tuff brick wall around my main village to protect my villagers. Not entirely sure why I didn't do this long ago but I'm glad I can use tuff bricks now, they look nice, and I'm relieved the villagers can't wander off too far and/or fall down into holes anymore. I left plenty of space inside the walls for them to walk around (plus, one quarter is still open because I didn't bring enough blocks.) Maybe I'll build a garden there eventually, or another house.
Next I think I'll do another exploration and mapping tour, looking forward to it. I'm going south this time, I already went that direction once so I know there's icebergs down there and this time I'll see even more.

I also checked my time played stat for this world: over 14 days, i.e. 336 hours. I expected it to be more tbh, that's less time than I spent playing Hades (375 according to Steam.) I didn't spend nearly as much time in other worlds, so Minecraft might not actually be the game I've played the most – yet, most likely ^^

DD and I finished excavating the trail ruin structures. Then we wanted to free the entire structure buut we only had one diamond pickaxe that was not fully enchanted, so we decided to go back to our starter village for more enchanting. DD did some mining, I did some fishing (I need to find a better spot, it is tricky in a frozen river), we both did a bunch of trading. We also built a wall around the village and it looks very cool! Made out of actual stone walls, I don't think I've ever used them before but they do look very good. Our gates look good too but we currently have them blocked with fences because of the villagers, with a carpet over it so we can get through. I've also started breeding cats, in the hope of employing them strategically to keep away creepers. We still need to figure out how to secure the river side, maybe we'll just need to include the other side of the river, we'll see. We also each got some pieces of enchanted diamond armor and enchanted tools. Oh and we both have capes now! They look cool. We both have the creeper cape from the 15th anniversary, but I also have the cherry blossom cape from the latest mob vote and mostly wear that.

We decided to turn on keepInventory, but not just like that: we went back to the trail ruins, where we "discovered" that the colorful glass panes are magical crystal shards; we're each keeping one with us at all times and eventually we'll find out that they enable keepInventory. I think it's a cool way to integrate it into our story and I'm glad we came up with it. Now we're continuing with removing the top layer over the entire trail ruins structure so it can all be seen from the surface, it already looks good and it'll look great when it's done.

At one point DD accidentally placed her glass pane on the ground, so we decided to head back to the village to hopefully get a silk touch tool, and since we had our magic crystals now (DD got a back-up) we decided to head through the nether. It was surprisingly less scary than I thought! Having two people made it easier especially in the basalt delta, one to bridge and one to keep an eye out for mobs. Back at the village we got better gear including silk touch tools and more diamond armor. We're looking forward to the server updating to 1.21 so we can check out a trial chamber.
