Doctor Who and Leverage

I feel tired even though I did very little the past few days. Or possibly "because of". Or possibly because the first point on my to-do list is "clean up my room and organize last semester's university stuff" and I don't want to do that...
I did watch some TV, but that doesn't really count as "getting stuff done."
The Beast Below: The concept of star whales is cool (space whales! And space squid things, there was this one SF novel I read ages ago in which they encounter one and it's brilliant.) Also: "I am the queen. Basically, I rule." *g* About the plot of the episode, hm. Amy was okay, so was the Doctor. It almost felt unfair: after they played "let's break Ten" for so long the Doctor has to make a horrible choice again so soon? No wonder he gets mad at Amy & everyone. Amy's justification for believing that the star whale came voluntarily (and is not angry after decades of torture) was very thin, especially when she brought the Doctor as an example (she doesn't even know him that well yet), but they got lucky. I'm still not sure what was up with those weird puppets and some details, and don't they still need to sacrifice people to feed the whale?
Victory of the Daleks: "Would you care for some tea?" xD I almost missed the last part of the episode because I found the design of the "new" Daleks so stupid. Rainbow colors, seriously? Apparently some fans call them Mighty Morphing Dalek Rangers, which is appropriately ridiculous.
The appearance of Winston Churchill is probably more interesting for people who are either British or paid more attention in that history lesson, but he was okay.
The Time of Angels: RIVER SONG IS BACK! And she calls the Doctor via Old High Gallifreyan "Hello Sweetie" in a museum! She trusts him so much she lets herself be blown out into space, and she can fly the TARDIS better than he can! She is fantastic.
Also the Weeping Angels finally become scary. They are still weirdly slow, but appearing through everything depicting them, stealing voices, and a whole army of them in a giant cave where they control the lights is scary, yes. Amy, why did you look away from the Angel and to the door?! But switching the angel off was clever, her conversations with & about River are fun, and I'm finally starting to like her.
Flesh and Stone: Ooh, River is going to kill the Doctor! Either that, or it is very mean misdirection, which is also possible. (DO NOT tell me anything, not even hints, or I swear I will hunt you down and do... something you won't like.) It's still fascinating how their timelines intersect. And once again she offers to sacrifice herself for him. If the cracks are like a sieve where memories of events run out - or if they're hunting for notable events, like alien invasions on Earth - that makes them scary. They even scare the Angels! That scene with poor Amy in the woods while the soldiers leave one by one is very effective.
I thought the Angels were quantum-locked, so they become stone when they are looked at? That wouldn't entirely work, because who defines "observing" anyway (what about tiny insects etc.), but imo it's still better than "when they think they are being observed" like when Amy walks through them. Okay, so maybe the latter requires less hand-waving of physics, but it's less interesting. And I almost wish we hadn't seen them move.
Hehe, poor Doctor, having to fend off Amy who is apparently very very nervous about her wedding. (That scene where Amy notices that his past companions have almost all been women was the short in-between "Meanwhile in the TARDIS", if I remember correctly, that was also fun. She calls him a space squid! Doctor, you don't only need companions to bring back wonder to your backyard, you also need them to rein you in.) And now she's the most important human, I thought it was Donna? That was quick.
The Vampires of Venice: The Doctor's appearance in the cake, wonderful. Poor Rory. The brain-washed girls are just strange, but the fish appearance is cool. All in all not a particularly memorable episode (to be fair, I was tired.) Another one where the Doctor has to sacrifice something (in this case an alien race) to save humans. He has earned a vacation!
Leverage 4x1 The (Very) Big Bird Job: Leverage is back! Yay! Everyone had fun vacations *g* They can't have lost all of their aliases, otherwise Sophie's con wouldn't have worked, so I guess only most of them. I love that they gave Eliot a restaurant and Sophie a theatre, I hope it comes up often. Hardison and Parker dating will be interesting, but I'm sorry we missed them getting together and hope we'll see them interacting more than in this episode. Nate, what in the world are you doing, and what are you making Hardison do? *worries*
