Last weekend I watched Iron Man 3, and I liked it a lot.

I wanted to watch it as soon as possible because I like reading reaction posts and everyone was telling me to avoid spoilers. I'm glad I did! I asked a few friends if they wanted to come with me and most of the debate club's "geek squad" came (+ one regular debater, who found our in-depth-discussions amusing, and a friend that smiled but I'm not 100% sure what she thought of us *g*) Because the lady on the phone was misleading we didn't have very good seats, but it didn't matter very much.
This is not a proper review, btw, just some things I liked the most.

It started with "Blue", which made me grin (not exactly the typical Iron Man color) and want to dance. The vid Blue by [personal profile] kuwdora is one of my favorite vids to dance to alone in my room. And Dummy wore a party hat! Awww, I really enjoyed Tony and his robots, especially how close he was to Jarvis.

I'm often wary of voice-overs because who are they talking to? Bruce! Perfect after-credits scene (and even the credits were more entertaining than usual.) "I'm not that kind of doctor. I don't have the... temperament." Science Bros <3

There were a few plot holes: I don't think it was very smart of Killian to turn Pepper. Tony must have invented a teleportation device because it randomly took them no time at all to drive anywhere. There were no or not enough reasons why he didn't ask SHIELD for help or at least hack them for intel (could have been done very easily, too.) And the power levels of the Extremis guys were wildly inconsistent. But these are fairly minor for superhero movies.

I loved that everyone was badass! Especially Pepper: as I told my friends afterwards (& most agreed), the scene where she blows up the bad guy before a background of flames in a tanktop is probably the hottest thing I've seen in weeks. And Rhodey, with his military expertise even without the suit that Tony built him. Tony infiltrating a mansion! He must have learned from Natasha, that was great. Also Maya, I liked her a lot. And Jarvis - how cool was the army of suits? I think I actually clapped silently when they appeared. (A. later told me how sorry he was that he wasn't sitting next to me because apparently I'm fun to watch when I'm watching movies.)

I like what they did with Tony: the consequences of New York and how he's (not) dealing with it, his relationship with Pepper (the suits are not keyed to Rhodey, but to Pepper), that ultimately he's a mechanic, Tony and his "connection" to the kid, and how he talks to Jarvis, the AI that he built. And Iron Man - he is Iron Man, but the armor is also Iron Man. The scene on the couch was hilarious.

My interpretation of the ending: Tony will still build new suits just because he likes building them. Originally I thought Pepper keeps her power, because it makes her less vulnerable and Tony wants to keep her safe, but what if she's so uncomfortable with it that she feels unsafe with it? I think I'd be satisfied either way. I wonder what they'll do with Tony's new powers or if Extremis is now "only" for healing - it's still risky, otherwise Tony would have used it on Happy.

Other people have said smart things about the movie, so I'll just link to them here: reviews by sholio, synecdochic, and starlady and coffeandink have links to more reaction posts.
