The Monty Python comparison makes a lot of sense to me! ... because that's really what the show feels like, that it's not supposed to make sense and you're not really supposed to think about what happens to these people or try to relate their lives to anything coherent or consistent. It's a black-humor sketch comedy that has recurring characters -- at least that's the level I'm relating to it on, I guess.
The idea that Cecil is an extremely bored small-town radio show host who is just pulling things out of his ass is absolutely hilarious, though. :D
