I'm not going to a friend's birthday party today because I'm not feeling up for it (in a "I could go if I wanted to but I just sorta don't want to" kind of way) and now I'm wondering how many cookies I should get him next week to make up for it. I wanted to bake tomorrow anyway.

I finally signed up for fandom-stocking, my post is here. I was very hesitant because it's like I'm asking people to give me things, it'd be extra work for them, and it's not like I really need anything, and I'm not even sure how much time I'll have to stuff a few stockings myself. But then I told myself to shut up and do it anyway, so.

I'm still catching up on Doctor Who, one episode per day. At least that's the plan, but I might watch a second one today because I'm enjoying this season more and more.
In "Kill the Moon" we had moon spiders! Did past Doctor Who really do so little about the moon that they could turn it into an egg for a space dragon and it doesn't contradict anything? (Space Dragon.) Although they never explained why the egg getting close to hatching means that there's suddenly so much extra mass, that still doesn't make any sense. And why does nobody wonder where cobwebs on the moon came from before they meet the moon spiders?
Good on you, setting clear boundaries, Clara! I was very surprised that she let Courtney come, it was clearly dangerous. Shows how much trust she has in the Doctor - too much, almost.

Mummy on the Orient Express: "Are you my Mummy?" was a fantastic throwback line. Orient Express in space! I liked the episode. (If the Foretold phaseshifts the victim, why can't the victim hurt it?) I also liked Clara and the Doctor. What I didn't like was Clara's decision at the end: to lie to the Doctor about Danny, and presumably to Danny about the Doctor. That can't end well.

I really enjoyed the last few weeks of "The Young Protectors." We had Duncan and Sircea talk about their plans and why they're doing what they're doing. So even if the YP win there's another huge problem ahead... I still don't really like Duncan, but Sircea is a great character. I want to see Sircea face off against Amanda, and then I want fic where they're forced to work together. (Or who knows, it could happen in canon!)
We got Amanda's plan in detail, we know it won't survive contact with the enemy so let's see what happens. And then Mitch! Mitch and Kyle! Awww. (I'm still hoping for bisexual!Mitch because I always want more bisexual characters, I don't think "I'm like you, you know, with liking guys" counts as definitely saying that he's gay.)
Presumably the battle starts soon, looking forward to it.

For the December meme, a question by [personal profile] weird_one: What's your comfort meal?

Difficult question, but I think I'll go with home-made burgers. I don't like burgers from fast-food restaurants: sometimes they taste good, but always weirdly empty. Burgers from proper restaurants can be very good. But my favorites are home-made burgers, with a normal Semmel, minced meat, and whatever is available from salad, tomatos, onions, gherkin... We call them "Papaburger" at home because my dad usually makes them, but LK's homemade variant is also very good.

Proper made burgers are the best! It's not an Australian burger unless it has beetroot on it - so good!

It comes sliced in a tin! It's very traditional, and any burger you get from a little local takeaway will put it on. A typical burger is tomato sauce, meat, onion, cheese, lettuce, tomato, beetroot. Maybe bacon, maybe a fried egg. Every place has their specialty. Yummy!

All the problems I might have had with Kill the Moon were pretty much rendered unimportant in comparison to pleasure of seeing Clara just completely and totally rip the Doctor a well-deserved new one. Partially because it was a well-earned moment for her character, and it's interesting for her character development...but also because jeez, yeah, it is great to see the Doctor called out on his bullshit. (Super frustrating thing for me back with Ten is how often he got away with it and was framed as righteous, ala Harriet Jones, or what happened to Donna).

I mean, I love the Doctor as a character, and his flaws are interesting, but it's good to see the people around him push back sometimes. was Clara's speech to him was I think the point where I started really, really liking her as a companion. And even though I found the moon egg thing kind of painful in a worst-of-RTD-years kind of way, as I said, I loved the moment so much I find myself a lot more forgiving. I'd like to frame her speech next to Old!Amy's "Don't you lecture me. Blue Box Man, flying through time and space on whimsy." And Rory's comment in the same episode about the Doctor checking for things like plagues before waltzing in.
