A bit more Bab5
Feb. 10th, 2015 07:57 pmWe unexpectedly found some time today :)
Grey 17 is Missing: As much as I like Garibaldi having adventures, this one made no sense whatsoever. Someone managed to hide an entire floor? Cool! How did they do it and why? It can't have been the crazy cultists, they have no idea of anything. How did they even get there? Why are they still alive, if there's an extremely dangerous predator trapped inside with them? And where do they get food, water etc. without someone noticing supplies are going missing? What was the deal with the crazy doll? And Garibaldi, when you discover a hidden floor, even when you hear a suspicious noise you alert security first!! It wouldn't have mattered because the floor must have been shielded to radio transmissions (otherwise his call later would have gone through), but still.
The other plot, with Delenn becoming Ranger One, was much more interesting. I hadn't thought about it, but now that the Grey Council is disbanded, what does the Minbari government look like? Are the clans handling things? What's-his-name the warrior caste ex-Council member had a good point in Delenn becoming very powerful. And she doesn't even notice all of it. Since the prequel movie I'm more aware of the fact that she's really quite young, and I suspect even more so for a Minbari. It makes her even more impressive, but also some of her blind spots more understandable. As Lennier tells her, people are willing to die for her, people will die for her, and she has to accept that.
It's a bit funny when someone says "those are the rules laid down by Valen" and I have to think "Sinclair, you really should have done that better!" ^^ He must have studied Valen on Minbar? I wonder how much he feels restrained by history and like he has to do certain things because they've already happened and he's afraid to change history. It must be weird for Delenn too, as far as I remember she's the only Minbari who knows that Sinclair = Valen. Maybe Lennier.
I love Lennier's devotion to Delenn, and that he asks Marcus for help. Marcus, you probably could have found a way to stop Neroon (so Wikipedia tells me is his name) without challenging him to a duel to the death! Lock him into a room or something. Though it was very dramatic, and I especially liked that Neroon at least stayed self-aware enough to realize that the sides have switched if Marcus is the one defending Minbari (Ranger) values. Marcus' relationship with Minbari culture seems pretty interesting.
And they're recruiting telepaths, and looking for the ones Franklin smuggled out! It makes a lot of sense, it's great that they're remembering and mentioning stuff like that.
And the Rock Cried Out, No Hiding Place: I wondered why G'Kar would trust Vir so much - does he even know about Vir saving Narns?, depends on how good his spy network is - but it makes a lot of sense that G'Kar trusts Londo's self-interest. It's likely that Londo made it easier for G'Kar to get to Narn, too.
Soo now that Londo has had Refa killed and discredited and is a powerful figure in the Centauri court, he doesn't even need the Shadows anymore for his revenge and plans, does he? Refa died in a slow motion montage to gospel music xD
Poor Vir. Though it's a bit funny that apparently now he's decided he's had enough, in the one instance where Londo had a tactical reason for how he treated him, instead of one of the other times Londo mistreated him. Maybe because Londo threatened his family? And he must have felt that he failed both his own conscience, by betraying G'Kar, and Londo, by revealing Londo's plans to Refa. Poor Vir :(
Na'toth! I miss her. And G'Kar does, too. I wonder if it was G'Kar or Londo who came up with the cover story for G'Kar going to Narn. Maybe she'll show up again, and there better be fic written about what she's doing in the meantime.
Sheridan and Delenn, nor anyone else, seriously didn't figure out that the Shadows were not attacking in this particular sector (i.e. the middle)? Doesn't make them look very smart. Let's just say they're too stressed. Hopefully as they become closer they'll let themselves be helped by each other.
More warships! Built by the religious caste alone, or the religious + worker castes? Where did they get the resources from, the temples must be extremely rich.
And then they kiss :) Comment by AV: "Yeah, the sight of a fleet of warships turns me on too." Why not *g*
The next two episodes have very promising titles, plus so far the season finales and two-parters have been excellent, so I'm very much looking forward to Friday :)

Date: 2015-02-10 10:15 pm (UTC)I think it's about 3/4ths of a good episode. Where it falls down, for me, is the Zarg...I just have this constant desire to go to everyone's house and personally apologize.... [Lurker's Guide to B5]
XD
AHHHHH, you're at And the Rock Cried Out... already! The plot goes by so quickly!
The moment with Refa and the Narns and the song in the background is one of those cinematic experiences that I will always think of when I hear B5. It's such a powerful scene, and the dichotomy between the upbeat gospel and the horrific stuff going on... It was the first time I'd seen anything like it (I was 18, I think?).
Oooh, coming up on the season finale~! I look forward to your review. ♥

I'm really looking forward to the season finale! "Z minus 10 days"... Delenn speaking of a major counter-attack... Z'had'dum? I fear that can't end well...
Btw, that Sheridan, one of the commanders of the fight against the Shadows, doesn't know about the huge fleet of warships the Minbari are building means that he's making decisions that potentially affect billions based on incomplete information. Not very smart.

Well, when the whole thing actually is plotted out beforehand, as B5 was, it's a lot easier to do stuff like that!
And the Rock Cried Out, No Hiding Place is one of my absolute favorites.
