Firefly: Serenity 1

Two weeks seems to be a critical time: half the exchange students I know are currently sick, including me. In bed with a lot of blankes, a hot-water bottle (purple with a little penguin on it, at the moment my favorite birthday present I ever got from LB) and tea is the perfect time to finally watch Firefly.
No spoilers, please.


It really is a Western in space - they even have dramatic scenes where they ride on horses while the sun sets over the hills! Show-downs in a valley with cowboy hats and guns! And spaceships. This one has charm, even though it's not particularly pretty.

I've already seen "Serenity" the movie, which made me fall in love with the characters even faster. No surprise there. Zoe! And Wash, role-playing with plastic dinosaurs, there are no words. They are so cute.
Kaylee and Serenity: "good girl", awww. I hope we get lots of Kaylee/Inara friendship!
I'm not yet convinced by Mal and Simon (but optimistic) and skeptical about Jayne, but we'll see, and curious about River.

I liked the plot, too: it gave a good impression of the setting, of the work they're doing, good character dynamics and the potential for more, and it was always interesting.

I can't think well enough to say more, but these episode reviews are for me anyway, and I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up rewatching it. (Pretty sure, actually, because there are only fourteen episodes and I'm here five months.) In the next days I need a pretty icon.

I am! I couldn't resist and watched two more episodes. So apparently it's one of those shows where they always end up doing the right thing in the end, with very creepy bad guys. And awesome characters ♥

Very good against that strange depressed/useless feeling that comes with sickness, together with tea and friends :)

I remember bouncing up and down with excitement when I watched the first episode and realised it was an 'actual' western in space. \o/

Mal definitely grows on you, whereas Simon takes a little while. And of course, I saw firefly before SGA so when Kaylee/Jewel Staite become Dr Keller it was a happy moment.

Ah, Jayne, Jayne. You'll love him or hate him :)

An actual western! They have the Serenity fly over running horses and everything. And cattle! xD

I especially like all the normal on-ship activity - playing basketball, playing cards with ship-keeping duties at stake, and someone has to have painted the cute little flowers on the kitchen walls. Domesticity in space, awww.

I'm starting to like Simon and Jayne, still hesitant about Mal. I'm hoping for more scenes where Inara slaps him ;-)

I think Kaylee painted the flowers. Its something she would do.

And Wash's dinosaur scene still cracks me up, every single time!

Which episode are you on?

Mal and Inara - I can't recall if there is more slapping, but there is definite... uhm... arguments! :)

I only see the episode titles in German, unfortunately, but let´s check wikipedia... I think the last one I saw was "Shindig". Kaylee in a pink dress with ruffles! Looking forward to the rest.
