Clone Wars: Zygerria + Kadavo
Jul. 11th, 2015 04:40 pmWhat an arc. Sometimes – quite often, actually , – TCW has plots that strongly remind me of h/c fanfic. This one in particular was excellent slavefic.
First, all of the Jedi are terrible at being undercover. Anakin actually did okay, but Ahsoka? That's not how a slave acts, and it should have looked a lot more suspicious that Anakin didn't punish her more.
Anakin was fascinating. His anger when confronted with slavery is very understandable (though considering that I spent a lot of time being angry at the Republic for basically enslaving the clones and droids it seems like hypocrisy to me, not that I expected him to notice.) His interactions with the queen of Zygerria after his capture are fascinating. She offers him his friends' freedom if he swears loyalty to her. If he doesn't he'll still have to serve her because she can blackmail him, so it would just be selfish of him, she points out. He says it's a difficult decision. Now rationally it makes sense that he's optimistic he can rescue his friends and get all of them out without having to break his word, but I do think he was affected by her accusations. The queen also says that he's not really free, it's just that now he's bound by commitments to his friends and to the Republic. Yeah, Anakin was never good at "cause over personal bonds."
Obi-Wan and Rex on Kadavo! Yeah, hurting and killing others is the best way to torture them. It's not the first time Obi-Wan has been captured, not the first time he's been tortured, not the first time people got hurt and died because of him. But it's a pretty terrible situation. He had hope that Anakin would come rescue them – but what if the queen had died before telling Anakin of Kadavo? What if it'd been months until a rescue and not days?
Jedi don't kill the helpless. But Obi-Wan looks at Rex and smiles approvingly right before Rex kills the Keeper. He enjoyed that.
Then I wrote fic about that AU. In one day. Huh. That was sort of an accident, looks like I really didn't want to study yesterday.
