schneefinkIt was technically the second pre-season game, but the game the Pens played yesterday featured most of their stars and kind of felt like the first. It was a lot of fun! I only watched a part of the first period and got to see goals by Tanger and Olli. 7-3 overall, and Phil scored two goals. (Apparently more reporters wanted to talk to Phil than to Sid, this is probably not working out as Phil hoped *g* man it's great to see him smiling so much.) I can barely wait for the start of the regular season.
Me: Tanger with four points, Olli with a goal… Good game :)
DD: though I'm paranoid about guys with a history of injuries/illnesses starting the season with a 4 points game. (but it's the preseason so hopefully it doesn't count.)
Me: WHY WOULD YOU REMIND ME OF THAT
DD: do you really think I enjoy suffering alone? Hell yes I'm gonna share thoughts like that.

Someone on Tumblr posted a Wait For It, a song from the new musical "Hamilton." As I sometimes do with songs I really like and/or can't get out of my head, I listened to it on a loop for hours. "Life doesn't discriminate/between the sinners and the saints/it takes and it takes and it takes…"
naye recced the musical and linked to an audio version. I just listened to Act I and I really liked it. I was a bit worried audio only would be confusing - I'm generally not good at telling voices apart, or at least not at remembering which voice belongs to whom – but it was surprisingly clear, I could understand the words well and follow the action (I'm pretty sure.) The lyrics are very good, especially the rhymes, and overall the music is excellent. I'm looking forward to Act 2 (though I've heard it's a bit sadder so it might have to wait a few days.)
I read "The Lost Steersman", the third Steerswoman book, and I liked it a lot. I like that we get more details about the Steerswomen, like how they protect themselves from unwanted questions (asking questions in return) and how the position can be abused (Mira the town gossip) and what happens with fake steerswomen, things like that. I still think their training is lacking in key areas. Especially Rowan's insistence that the truth should always be revealed and no knowledge is in and of itself dangerous seems a bit naïve and not thoroughly thought-out.
Zenna! I enjoyed her a lot. She showed up right when I was getting annoyed by the lack of important female minor characters.
I really liked Steffie. If we hadn't gotten his age I'd have estimated him at 17, 18 or so, not 21, only three years but for some reason it kind of bothered me sometimes. At 21 shouldn't he pay more attention to what he wants to do later? Whatever. Future steersman yes!
Ugh, Janus. I did NOT expect him to turn out to be an insane mass murderer.
The "demon" society is interesting, cool expansion of the world. So the demons that show up in the Outskirts are all lost, or are they exploring, or looking for something?
Speaking of world expansion, the map on my ebook reader is very small, and the online versions aren't working well for me for some reason. Sometimes it was a bit confusing where they were (especially cardinal directions, details like that), but overall it was fine, and I like how they keep discovering new things. (The Steerswoman are a thousand years old and only one or two have ever seen a demon before? Maybe they were originally a very small order.)

DD is ignoring everything about the Kane case, probably a good decision but I just can't look away from the trainwreck. I was never a Blackhawks fan, so I told myself before saying the Blackhawks/NHL should or shouldn't do anything I have to imagine what I would think if it was Sid being accused instead of Kane. Tbh I was a bit relieved to find that my opinions didn't change - except that it would hurt a lot more. Poor Blackhawks fans. I would like to think that other teams would handle such a situation better, but after Varlamov and Voynov and Ribeiro that seems naïve.
Fortunately there are many great hockey fans to share the situation with, that makes it bearable. Even some intelligent journalists. Twitter is surprisingly useful to follow things like this.
I don't have much hope for a not-terrible resolution to this whole case anymore, but it would be nice.
