Today at 7am I sent the complete first draft of my thesis to my advisor. I don't know if she'll tell me to go back and correct some things or if she'll just mark it as-is, but she said she'll be able to mark it by the end of February. It's not certain I won't fail, but I know my own standards are higher than hers and imo it's not a good paper but it's serviceable.
If I pass, I'm done with my degree.
Whoa.

The weekend was difficult, but in the end I wrote two out of seven chapters, plus summary+intro, plus proofreading and formatting. Quite good. I already had to tell myself several times that asking myself & being frustrated why I couldn't work like this earlier doesn't help. Thank you so, so much for your encouragement and well-wishes <3 Much appreciated.

It hasn't quite sunk in yet that the main part of this huge thing that I've been working on and that's been weighing on me for years is done. I feel a bit weird. Mostly tired.
Now I have time to do things that I put off until February, a few "to do" things but also reading and writing and skating and meeting friends. That'll take some getting used to.

Die ersten Wochen nach meinem Uni-Abschluss waren unglaublich seltsam. Jahrelang hatte ich immer im Hinterkopf, dass ich *eigentlich* was für die Uni machen sollte/könnte - und plötzlich war meine Freizeit tatsächlich FREI. Kein schlechtes Gewissen mehr. Man merkt erst im Nachhinein, wie viel da eigentlich auf einem gehangen ist.

Ich hab mich schon heute beim "ich sollte eigentlich - ach ja" ertappt. Noch hab ich einige andere Sachen die ich tun sollte, aufräumen und verschiedene Kleinigkeiten organisieren und so, aber in ein paar Tagen ist der Großteil davon erledigt und dann... Ich werd's genießen.

What's the next step? Do you have to do a thesis defense at all, or is it just - pass the thesis, get a degree? (Sweden's big on thesis defenses, even at the BA level.)

No thesis defense at the bachelor level at my university. Thankfully! Some chapters I wrote over two years ago (...wow) and I would need to do a lot of reading to be able to defend those. If the thesis itself is fine I'm done with the whole thing \o/ So relieved.

Congratulations! It's such a feeling of relief, isn't it, to have the thing out of your hands. Suddenly you have all this free time to do stuff, and it doesn't make you feel guilty to do something other than the thesis.

Thanks! The previous times when she corrected chapters it was mostly minor stuff, like "this should be a bit more technical" and "you need a transition between these two paragraphs." Granted those chapters were a bit more polished, but I still don't think it'll be too bad.
