Birds and stuff

Yesterday a tiny black bird with red tail feathers landed in our garden right under the table. It dropped something that looked like an oversized cocoa bean and flew off again. The cocoa bean then revealed itself to be a caterpillar that was promptly attacked by the ants. The caterpillar proceeded to head straight towards the grass, turning over repeatedly to shake off the ants. Which worked except for one ant that looked like it was holding on to a rollercoaster until it lost its hold in the grass. After a few seconds the grass stopped moving and I lost the caterpillar.
Now I just can´t figure out what the bird was thinking. I have some really interesting theories that are way too crazy to reveal to anyone. But I might watch any birds very closely from now on.
