I had a job interview today and it went very well! I feel good about my chances.
To celebrate, I binge-watched season 2 of Noragami, after I watched the first season in the past few days. I don't even remember who told me about it but it was on my list of shows to watch, it's short, and I liked the opening. Some people are literally other people's weapons, my loyalty kink sat up and took notice. I enjoyed it a lot, especially the second season.
Season 1:
I was excited when I saw that they actually focused on Yukine being unhappy with his sudden unexpected new fate. He didn't have a choice, he doesn't remember anything and suddenly he apparently *belongs* to someone who seems like a dick and is also poor so they're hungry and cold and homeless, Yato does a shit job explaining stuff (really, you say you killed Bishamon's Regalia just because you wanted to and don't expect Yukine to feel wary?) and uses Yukine to fight and kill against his will; no wonder he is not happy. It's even hard to blame him for losing control like he did, Yato neither helped him nor released him, wtf Yato. Later Yato admits that he deliberately let things get worse without addressing them to "wake up" Yukine, Yato you asshole. Yato says he didn't want to release Yukine because Sekki is so powerful, though he appears to feel a little bit responsible for him too, he does a shit job of showing it though.
Yukine repented, the main reason for that being that a) he realizes that Hiyori is/was his friend and doesn't want to lose her, b) he realizes that despite being dead and a Regalia he can still be a person. So that's all well and good, except I'm not sure Yato ever realized how much he fucked up, which I don't like. Honestly I'm not sure Yukine realizes it either, but he's excused. For Yukine it's important that Yato held on to him, especially when he finds out that most gods banish their Regalia for much less, and he values any connections that he has, and he also takes pride in Yato telling him that he's strong. At least there's something they can build on. When Yato tells Yukine that he hesitates to fight Rabo for Hiyori's memory because it could destroy Yukine – finally! Communication!
So gods are blighted when their Regalia commit a sin – is there "objective" sin? It didn't sound like it depends on their god's morals, but it's possible.
The relationship between gods and Regalia is very interesting in general. Apparently most gods banish their Regalia if they sting them only once, that's very strict, especially because thoughts alone can cause stings. Regalia must be very much in control of themselves at all times. Especially since if Regalia are banished instead of released they can't find another master without becoming a Nora. And I assume if they're banished they can't sting their master anymore either? But can their master still call them whenever they want? That would mean a bigger power imbalance than I assumed at first. Especially considering that gods can bind Regalia without their consent…
From how much distance can gods call their Regalia? And can they find them, at least approximately?
Bishamon's Kazuma is very interesting, I hope we find out why he feels like he owes Yato. I also look forward to Bishamon finding out.
Rabo seemed to hint at that gods of calamity are declining even faster than other gods, which is interesting to think about. …except I'm too lazy right now. Ah well.
I do like Hiyori, but she kind of… doesn't have a very interesting storyline of her own. She's the emotional support in the first half and the damsel in the Rabo story. She doesn't have the history and background most of the others have, and Yukine's circumstances are more dramatic than hers. I do hope she gets to do more. She keeps telling Yato to fix her body, but she doesn't want to lose her ties to him and Yukine either. How about telling Yato only to fix it so that she can choose when she wants to leave her body?
Season 2, Noragami Arogoto:
Yess, more Bishamon! She means well, but keeping track of so many Regalia must be difficult, no wonder many feel neglected. I loved that they looked at that. Having so many must also mean that she feels the individuals less, otherwise she would have known about i.e. Aiha earlier. How did Kugaha escape her notice? Poor Suzuha, Yukine was so happy to have a friend.
Kazuma! All the drama, yesss. That backstory, whew. No wonder he feels indebted to Yato and guilty about it, and it's also understandable why he never explained it to Bishamon. Making up for it is harder than exile. Good call by Bishamon, there's nobody better or more loyal and they both learned.
I'm glad that Aiha at least recovered, and that Bishamon learned and wants to do better. An exchange diary to get to know her Regalia better is cute :)
Yukine leveled up! He sacrificed himself for Yato, I got the impression it was more instinct than about Yato personally but still. Blessed Vessel, neat. And then when he finds out that he's considered Yato's exemplar he tries to become stronger, training with Kazuma etc. – he really takes a lot of pride in doing well. He also doesn't have much else… He could really use more friends, it sucks that Suzuha died but he can get to know more other Regalia, especially now that Yato has a shrine and they can visit Tamahagakara freely.
Yato really should have told Yukine about Nora/Hiiro. It makes sense that Noras are also despised because they are feared, but Yukine beat Kugaha regardless, and Sekki even destroyed a Pacification Circle while still not knowing what Yato was doing and why and why with Hiiro. Whoa, Blessed Vessels really are extremely strong. Though it depends there too - I'd be surprised if the thunder dragon wasn't a Blessed Vessel too, and Chouki won against it. Chouki is "just" an earring, but also an extremely powerful amplifier. Bishamon trying to save Yato was also great.
Poor Ebisu. Looks like Bishamon got away with it, at least, and while I'm pretty sure she won't be allowed to be his caretaker she'll probably still visit, and Yato will definitely take care of him. I really liked how meeting Ebisu, after being forced to work for his Father, finally gave Yato the necessary push to definitely decide that he wants to reform himself, and into a god of fortune to follow Ebisu's example. He finally releases Hiiro, even though it looks like they grew up together and they've "always" been together, and he asks Yukine to guide him as his exemplar :) Very nice. Renewed hope for better communication between them.
I liked Hiyori a lot better by the end of this season. Too much of her storyline was still about her being in danger and will she or won't she forgot Yato (I wonder if "Fujisaki" had something to do with her forgetting Yato and Yukine so quickly when she didn't see them for a few weeks?), but her giving Yato a shrine was great, and I liked a lot that she started doing her own research and making theories about the gods.
My grandparents are currently visiting :) Please, muses, convince me not to scrap everything I've written for Yuletide so far and start from scratch just because I had an idea that might work better, I don't have the time for that.

Date: 2016-12-19 03:31 pm (UTC)I do spend a lot of time being concerned about what happens to Hiyori's body while she's off gallivanting as a spirit, though. She seems to just leave it lying in the street an awful lot.

Date: 2016-12-19 08:29 pm (UTC)Bishamon and her many regalia are a main plotline in season 2 :) Hiyori's friends also appear again. The manga has also introduced more of her family, including her brother and grandmother.

Date: 2016-12-20 06:16 pm (UTC)I loved Yukine's character growth. (I would have liked a bit more acknowledgment that Yato was more of an asshole than necessary, but small steps.)
External problems coming up :)
