On Saturday I finally watched Moana (Vaiana here, apparently because of copyright issues?) The rest of the day was a completely surreal mix of listening to the Moana soundtrack on repeat, and following the awful news from the US on Twitter. For a few hours in the evening I was at a summer choir camp reunion party, it was like a strange bubble. Then I came home and continued following the news, and also watched the first half of the NHL All-Star Game. Weird mix of fun and ineffective distraction, strange contrast.
The political news is infuriating and terrifying and exhausting and I don't even want to imagine being someone more directly affected by it. Thoughts and prayers.

Speaking of prayers, today in the morning I went to church, for the first time in a while and for the first time in the parish nearby. I just really wanted to hear in person someone tell a community to do the right thing. And it worked, kind of. The priest didn't talk about anything political in detail, but there were strong themes of how following Christ means helping others and helping the weak, even when it's hard work and doesn't offer an immediate reward. (That so many US Republicans call themselves Christians is unbelievable.)
Afterwards I went to the after-mass coffee&cake get-together and talked to a few people, it was nice. (On one of the tables, next to some flyers, lay "Fifty Shades of Grey" o.o) I'm not very, almost not at all religious right now, but I made an appointment with the priest to talk about some of the issues that I have and I look forward to what comes of it.

I really need to write at least one job application today. But, even though I know it's silly, it feels so, idk, strange to apply for trivial jobs while so many important and terrible things are happening. And it's very easy to get distracted.

First though, more nice procrastination: Moana! I loved it, it's a great film and I'm very happy that I saw it in the cinema. It's pretty, the music is fantastic, the story is nice. Moana is great, and Maui is fun and has a nice story too (I suspected he would get a Han Solo in ep IV moment but I still felt like cheering when he actually did.) The relationship between Moana and her grandmother was very nice (a spirit ray!, lovely.) I also liked the stubborn ocean a lot. And have I mentioned the pretty and the music? :)
This is the first time (that I recall) that I saw a post-credits scene in a Disney movie, btw. I stayed just for the music, and because I like seeing who they thank. Highlights in this case: one person responsible for "Caffeination", thank-yous also going to a zoo and to the cast of Hamilton, and a surprisingly large section "Production babies."

I loved Moana so much.

I don't know why the title was changed in your area, but I know it was in at least one country due to a famous porn star of that name!

Ahhhhh, Moana is so great! The music is very addictive, haha. I don't think I've stopped humming it since I saw the movie. XD

Also, I don't think it's silly to feel strange about job applications. *hugs* I wrestle with feeling frustrated and exhausted by going about daily life in the midst of all this, too. Your job hunt isn't trivial, though, because your well-being and livelihood is important and radical. You're important, and taking care of yourself (whatever that may look like) is valuable.

(It is immensely easy to get distracted, though, yes, lol.)

Good luck with the sit-down with the priest and the job applications! Hopefully lots of positive things will be coming your way.

I still haven't seen Moana yet because it hasn't been released here in Japan - they're waiting for Japanese spring break to release it, but everyone's positive reviews has me excited to see it.
