Social things
Jul. 19th, 2015 06:02 pmDuring the months when I wasn't feeling well I spent a lot of time alone. Even after I started getting better when I met people it was usually good friends or people I already knew. My therapist made me aware of that, and I decided to try and meet new people again when I feel up to it.
Yesterday was a good day for that :) In the morning I went to a neighborhood brunch in the district I'm moving to. I brought chocolate muffins (latest experimental version, verdict: good, but not my favorites) and got a few tips about restaurants etc. in the area. The people were nice too, I hope I'll see the animator with the star wars flip flops again. (Less so the arrogant film maker who thought that her running a recipe blog is oh so impressive.)
In the afternoon I was invited to a friend's barbecue near the Old Danube. Unfortunately most people he invited, including almost all of our mutual friends, couldn't make it, but I still enjoyed it and it was less stressful than I'd have expected it to be had I known that in advance. We went swimming (many algae unfortunately, but still very nice) and then had a good barbecue, this time I'd brought tomato salad.
Later in the evening I mentioned singing, so one of the guys got his guitar from his car and we sang for a while. He plays really well! We did a few classics, "Hallelujah" etc., and "Es lebe der Sport" and "Es lebe der Zentralfriedhof" in Viennese. It reminded me that I want to try and play guitar again occasionally. Maybe I should take one or two classes to make sure I'm holding my hands correctly.
All in all yesterday was a success & fun and I'm very happy with myself that I took the opportunity :) Hopefully there'll be more things like that in the future.
In apartment news, HY is moving in, but DD isn't because she can't get out of her old lease. I'm very disappointed: we made plans for months now and I think living together with her would have been great. It'll be harder to organize our movie and hockey nights but we'll manage. The food & recipe exchanges will happen much less often than I'd hoped.
DD is 28, HY is 22, and the difference is very obvious when talking to the two of them about apartment planning. DD was sometimes hard to reach, but I could trust her to organize stuff and plan and think for herself. HY, not so much. She's a very spontaneous person, much more so than I am, and sometimes that's a bit stressful. I like her a lot, I'm just not sure how well we'll fit as flatmates. But we'll figure things out eventually.
We also still need a third flatmate, I hope we'll find someone who fits well. Fortunately it's no problem if it's a month later, I'm really lucky my parents are able and willing to help me out with money! Otherwise everything would be about twenty times as stressful.
