Austria's Constitutional Court declared that same-sex marriages have to be allowed! :D
Good news are so nice. Maybe they'll even further update the marriage paragraph §44 ABGB from 1811(!) that still states that married people declare their will to "live in inseparable companionship, beget children, to educate them, and to support each other." Also interesting what they'll do with legal partnerships, originally the separate-but-almost-equal alternative for homosexual couples, if they'll abolish it altogether or actually make it an marriage-light alternative for homo- and heterosexual couples.

Hooray! Glad to hear Austria is getting marriage equality. I'm crossing my fingers that Australia will be implementing it soon, too.

It won't be implemented until 1.1.2019, but still, our likely new conservative government wouldn't have allowed it at all if not forced by the court. Small victories.

Yay, congrats! Let's hope they'll do an overhaul of the legislature paragraph that PREDATES THE COUNTRY OF FINLAND.

In Finland, they made legal partnerships a "closed category", in that none more can be made, but upgrading them to marriage requires active choice.

Yeah, the ABGB is pretty old ^^ As a side-effect, some paragraphs still in effect today have hilarious spelling.

That sounds like a sensible way to handle it - which probably means they'll do it differently...

The constitutional court's decision made me so happy! Though I'm still expecting the FPÖ to try and fuck with it somehow.

Oh they definitely will try. At least it's harder to fuck with a court decision than with a previous government's law.
Several Vfgh judges will retire in the next few years and rumors say the FPÖ wants the right to appoint at least two of them, we should probably be glad they decided on the issue now.
