Dramatic developments in our D&D campaign in session 99!

Since the last time I gave you guys an update:
- our secret outpost was attacked by an infiltrator, we eventually stopped her
- we found out that the surviving minions of the fiend of possession we killed did not just want to carry on her stated mission, they wanted to resurrect her, in a way which would also give her an upgrade, and it would be Bad
- that prospect had us panicking a bit and we contacted the evil gods to explain to them why that demon coming back would be very bad for them; enemy of my enemy and all that
- but hey, if we manage to lure out the evil gods, you gotta use the opportunity, said our allied gods
- so instead of having a battle of five armies, there were three gods fighting personally and two more interfering (and our party just watched)
- that interference ended in the entire city being eradicated, a hole being blown in the (flat) world, and one evil god dying, but our goddess died too
- the latter: very bad. Fortunately we have a way to bring her back! In the meantime we need to fix the hole in the world.
- for help with that and for other reasons we planned to turn one player's character into a goddess (that character would become an NPC but the player was fine with that) and we prepared for that

Then: session 99. We continued preparations to turn our druid into a goddess, when we were notified that the ritual to bring back our goddess, Rose, didn't appear to be working, probably because that resurrection would require the death of one of her followers. So we contacted her in her "afterlife" to convince her to come back, and while doing that found out that since the "gods" in this world aren't real gods but artificially created ones, existence for them is pretty hellish. They cannot escape the prayers of their followers but answering prayers is painful and hard. No wonder Rose didn't want to come back. Except we convinced her that her family and followers needeher and she'll never escape that knowledge if she stays dead, and also that things will improve when the war is over. In the end she agreed to come back. I really loved that entire sequence, great job by our DM.

Then of course our druid had second thoughts about becoming a goddess because she found out that being a goddess sucks. My character talked with her about it, another RP scene I enjoyed a lot.

Right when we thought we thought we had a promising path forward… The Bubble tore. The entire world our campaign takes place in is basically a pocket dimension within a dimensional bubble, created by evil fake Pelor to create minions for himself and eventually be used as a mass sacrifice to give him a power-up. We had some basic knowledge about the bubble, but not much because it's very complicated. We just knew that having not enough gods would destabilize the Bubble, another reason why the druid was going to become one. We didn't think we'd reached critical mass – but it turned out that having a goddess suddenly come back from the dead was just enough stress to create a small but quickly growing tear. Which means that things from the outside can come in, and things from the inside can be sucked out. BAD. We're especially afraid that evil fake Pelor is going to call for assistance from his demonic patron from outside the Bubble, or that he'll try to blow it all up. Time pressure.

So now we're looking for solutions in a hurry. Turning the druid into a goddess will help, but it won't be enough. More gods would help, but creating them requires the sacrifice of many living beings. (For the druid's ritual we'll use a race of evil bugs but there's only enough of them for one ritual.) That might be a necessary sacrifice though... but then the question is, who to turn into gods? …so of course almost every player started thinking about what their character's domains would be if they were to become gods. (Mine, according to the DM: Magic, Undeath, Competition. On the one hand having my character turn into a god could be cool, and though she wouldn't aim for it I could see her doing it under these circumstances; but I don't want to have to stop playing her...) (We could also pick NPCs, but there aren't many I trust that much - off the top of my head, one.) But we all also know that being a god sucks. Our rogue just wants to escape the bubble and go elsewhere in the multiverse. Our druid is now considering just destroying the whole bubble and killing everyone inside because inside the bubble there is no afterlife, so wouldn't it be better to kill everyone and give them a chance at a real afterlife outside?

Also, my undead cat familiar volunteered to become a god. My character said no, because she doesn't trust her 100%. The cat took that extremely personally, and, uh, I might have to fight my kitten. Who could be quite the formidable opponent, because she was spellstitched and has a bunch of tricks up her sleeve. Including a very powerful necromantic artefact that my character thinks was lost.

It's all very exciting :D

Next session is #100! Unfortunately one player won't be able to be there :( And the likelihood that we'll have everyone in the following weeks is also low. Still, there will be cake, and most likely more dramatic developments.
