Yesterday, and by that I mean this morning until 3am, I helped kill 90 million people, rejected a part of my soul, and became a goddess (probably.) Now I have emotional hangover. (And not enough sleep.) I love D&D.
We were so conflicted about the 90 million people, because technically we probably didn't have to kill all of them. We need to re-establish the balance between the amount of sentient mortals and the number of gods inside the dimension bubble, to do that we create new gods and sacrifice mortals to do so, but we don't know the exact numbers we need. The continent of the surviving evil god has 90 million people, and we debated just killing some of them, maybe 20 million or so - but then the war against the rest of them would have continued, and there's a chance that once we kill their fake god, now that the bubble is open, their prayers will reach the actual real god from outside the bubble and, uh, he'd be pissed we killed several millions of his followers (that he didn't know existed.) And if the sacrifice is not big enough and the new gods not powerful enough they might not even be able to repair the bubble. So it was just all around safer to kill the entire continent, to keep the other ~500-600 million people in the world safer. ...yeah, many people won't be very happy with that decision.
