TMA season 2
Nov. 21st, 2019 05:17 pmLooks like it took me about four days to listen to season two of TMA. It's really hard to stop! I have a lot of feelings. I did not have time in between to make notes, so have some slightly disjointed ones. Aaah where to even start.
We met so many great characters! Basira, Daisy, Gertrude! And I love the slow reveal of the stories through the statements, another one from Trevor the vampire hunter and more about Hilltop Road and Gerard Keay and Mary Keay and Mike Crew and the Lukases and the Fairchilds etc. etc., of course the Not!Them. And Jurgen Leitner himself! And Martin and Tim are also great.
But my favorite is Jon himself. Dude, get some rest :( His paranoia and lack of sleep and stalking tendencies are bad, but not without cause.
Some highlights:
- Tim assuming that Jon and Basira are having an affair, in #50 "Foundations"
- Jon shouting at Martin about what he is lying about and it turns out to be Martin's CV, in #56 "Children of the Night"
- The intervention for Jon in #60 "The Observer Effect" (and not!Sasha actually is a monster and tells him to stop with his paranoia aäsldkfa)
- Jon feeling hurt when Daisy tells him she and Basira thought he killed Gertrude and that was why Basira got him the tapes in #61 "Hard Shoulder"
- Tim confronting Jon in #65 "Binary"
- Melanie telling Jon about not!Sasha in #76 "The Smell of Blood", and Jon realizing what this means about what happened to Sasha in #77 "The Kind Mother"
- and pretty much the entirety of the season finale. Jon, WHY did you break the table, that was SO stupid, it was SO obvious from the last statement you read that the table was binding it -.- Very lucky that Michael saved him – and released Tim and Martin too. Tim and Martin going after Jon together (for very different reasons) was great. And Jon finding out that he "belongs" to one of the powers (and before that, mentioning "our Gerard", aww ^^). And Elias murdering Leitner, and I can hardly wait to find out what Tim and Martin saw when they got back… Jon passed out next to Jurgen Leitner's corpse?
Those were pretty much all about the Archive team. Some of my favorite statements:
- #41 "Too Deep" because Jon noo…
- #42 "Grifter's Bone", and I was facepalming hard when the journalist said "I'm not stupid, I didn't stay to listen to them, I just recorded them," and then later nevertheless tries very hard to watch the video, of course that was not going to end well.
- #46 "Literary Heights", with Mike Crew throwing himself into the Vast
- #48 "Lost in the Crowd", hi Gerard :)
- #49 "The Butcher's Window", the image of someone reaching into a living person and taking out their ribs and braiding them is, uh, a lot, and then taking out a bone through someone's skin like a weird reverse glove…
- #52 "Exceptional Risk", what happened to Robert Montauk – I still want to know more about what he did, I hope there is another statement.
- #57 "Personal Space" seemed surprisingly familiar, and I think that it's because while I'm not at all familiar with horror tropes, I am very familiar with SF tropes
- #58 "Trail Rations", the corpse begging to be eaten
- #59 "Recluse" - I've read stories about people, even live ones, being used as incubators before, but somehow the fact that he took them in and raised and controlled them for years before that makes it so much more creepy.
- #61 "Hard Shoulder" – the coffin again! And Daisy regularly kills vampires, of course she does.
- #62 "First Edition", Mary Keay the necromancer
- #64 "Burial Rites", yeah I bet what the Ancient Egyptians did to an immortal was not pretty at all.
- #71 "Underground" – I listened to this one while actually on the underground, that made for a great atmosphere.
- #73 "Police Lights" – Jon actually managed to help, yay! An officer still died, but probably more, and Basira too, if not for his warning about bringing enough torches
- #74 "Fatigue" – yes sleep is important Jon, you should get more of it!!!
- #75 "A Long Way Down", "some fears can only be endured for so long", yeah I hope Grant is dead too.
- #79 "Hide and Seek", not!Sasha's "statement"
- #80 "The Librarian", Jurgen Leitner's.
It's so hard to resist the urge to seek out all the fic and Tumblr posts.
Anyone know where I can find icons?

Date: 2019-11-21 06:35 pm (UTC)Re: icons, I haven't seen many, I think mostly because there's just not much in the way of visuals to put in them. I wish there were some quote icons, but I haven't seen any of those.

Date: 2019-11-21 07:11 pm (UTC)Making icons for a podcast is perhaps a bit more work but there'd be plenty of options. For example, one of the green cassette tape with the "statement begins... ...statement ends" art they have for merch would be cool.

He needs it so baaad. XD
"Tim assuming that Jon and Basira are having an affair,"
His reaction and supportiveness was great, ahaha.
"Tim confronting Jon in #65 "Binary""
I really love all the confrontations and emotional outpourings when they happen, haha.
"- #71 "Underground" – I listened to this one while actually on the underground, that made for a great atmosphere."
You continue to have great timing. XD

Date: 2019-11-21 09:46 pm (UTC)I love Tim! I thought he was a bit of a jerk when he first appeared, and he's certainly, hm, not the most naturally kind person, but he's not an asshole, and his complaints about Jon are all entirely legitimate.
The timing of listening to "Underground" was entirely intentional :D It was in the morning and full of people, fortunately.

Date: 2019-11-21 10:49 pm (UTC)Even all thrown in together like this you're reminding me of all the good stuff in season two. Tim! Martin's CV! (That is one of my favorite scenes, honestly.) Jon being somehow hurt that the police officer he's negotiating questionable evidence handovers with is not actually his friend! Extended sounds of brutal pipe murder!
Season two is the season I re-listen to the least, but now I'm very much looking forward to it.
