TMA #161: Dwelling

I don't know why listening to this horror podcast makes me so happy but it does :D
Following the episode releases live was fun, first yesterday when Patreon crashed for a few minutes (Alex' reaction), and today in Discord when everyone renamed themselves first Alex J and then Jonny Sims to summon them (which worked), and I do so enjoy watching everyone freak out together. DD and I listened together yesterday and I was making a lot of high-pitched noises because *flails*
Tim! And Sasha! The only record they have of real!Sasha's voice :( Aww, they were all friends. Surprise birthday party for Jon, and they went out for ice cream for Martin's birthday (which Jon forgot, heh), and Tim's hand slipped to light the candles <3 Hearing Tim being happy again is nice and heartbreaking.
And Elias invited himself, he "keeps an eye out," grrrr he's the worst. Just here to steal some cake and make some terrible foreshadowing puns. And singing "dear Archivist."
Jon leaving his future self a message, "Fire Tim," aäsdlkfäasdf
Back to the nightmare world, where Jon has been listening to these tapes over and over, of course he has ;_;
He doesn't need to sleep anymore but Martin does, but apparently there's no way to tell the time, no natural day and night cycle anymore and the clocks are not working. And apparently Martin doesn't need to eat, either, but didn't notice until now. Which surprised me, because there's a lot that can be done with food/feeding-related fear. How are people being kept alive? I assume that many died/are dying, doesn't seem like a sustainable food supply. Though if they're going for quality of terror over quantity the fears might be okay with a substantial population reduction.
Jon promising not to let it harm Martin, yes good. He can see all the terror nearby…
"I'm mourning a world I killed, and we're all trapped in its rotting corpse," yess, when if not now is the time to be a little dramatic.
I love that Martin is still optimistic, believing that there is a way to reverse all this, and just generally refusing to give in to despair. Though I bet there's a lot to "file under "ominous" for now" ^^
Jon and Martin are so great together. It's obvious that they've been talking about these things a few times now and have become better at communicating. I love the relationship development, though I'm also slightly sad that so much of it was off-screen. Though I have faith that we'll see enough of it :) Jon's casual "I love you," aww.
Another Gertrude tape! I was hoping for that! The intro that would have been useful to have at the very beginning… She wanted/thought Sasha would be her successor, interesting. But I wonder what she intended to happen and what did happen to the tape. It was the day before her death, right? She intended to survive, but the tape was in case she didn't, so she, what, gave it to Leitner?
Gertrude said time is short, but I rather think she just left it until the last minute, just like telling Leitner to move the gas main. We already knew she'd become more careless about Elias watching near the end.
Gertrude telling Jurgen Leitner to remind her to tell him about Agnes was great – we know they never met face to face iirc, but I realized that doesn't mean they were not in contact in some way.
Jon thinks it was Elias/Jonah who sent the tapes, but Elias didn't know about Leitner, and if he'd listened to this tape he would have. So either he found the tape after Leitner's death, ooor it wasn't Elias who sent the tapes. And if Leitner had the tape, why didn't he give it to Jon? I'd say the Web is a major suspect here. Seems like Elias was right and the Web did want him to succeed.
When I'm notprocrastinating on studying thinking about TMA I've been listening to The Mechanisms some more. There are some crossovers on AO3 already but I realized that the one I want most is the one where the Mechanisms arrive on earth during the apocalypse for plenty of interesting violence, shoot stuff and mess up everybody's plans (especially Jonah's) because nobody expected them, and it inevitably leads to a tragic (but not devastating) ending. It might be better to wait until s5 is over to write it, but I think it could be a lot of fun.

Date: 2020-04-06 09:23 pm (UTC)There's still time for relationship development, I'm optimistic. And Jon just casually saying "I love you" in the very first episode of s5 after all the discussion of how romantic their relationship was in fandom was fun.
I thought that waiting a week for every episode would be super hard, and on the one hand it is, but on the other hand the next one comes out soon and I'm still so busy thinking about #161! So much good stuff.
"The Mechanisms" is a band that Jonny Sims used to be in, and Basira's VA as well, and a few guest stars. They wrote a few concept albums of their adventures as immortal space pirates that are very good and a lot of fun :D The albums are pretty much space AUs of myths or fairy tales with many queer love stories and tragic endings. (I'd start with "Once Upon a Time (In Space)."
