Finally continuing with this list: have some more Yuletide recs from 2017 and 2018.
Wishes by Esteliel, American Gods
1.5k, The Jinn/Salim
Summary: The jinn's arms surround him, and for the first time in his life, Salim doesn't wish for anything.
Why I like it: Despite not knowing canon (I did read the book but it was many years ago), I really liked the look at Salim and the atmosphere.
Canon knowledge required: No
Family by scribblemoose, Versailles
5.2k, Philippe d´Orléans/Chévalier de Lorraine/Liselotte
Summary: Philippe loves Chevalier and knows Chevalier loves him in return. Liselotte approves.
What could possibly go wrong?
Why I like it: I really enjoyed the relationship dynamics and negotiations here.
Canon knowledge required: The basics would probably be good, but not absolutely necessary
argument for a week, laughter for a month, and a good jest forever by spock, Succession
8.7k, Kendall Roy/Roman Roy, canon-divergent AU
Summary: How dreadful the knowledge of the truth can be, when there’s no help in truth.
(Roman has never been able to leave well enough alone.)
Why I like it: I love power games and fucked up family dynamics, and that last scene is particularly beautiful.
Canon knowledge required: No
Passing Years by alessandriana, Natsume Yuujinchou
7k, gen
Summary: Someone keeps leaving books on Natsume's porch. (It's probably a youkai thing.)
Why I like it: This is lovely and captures the atmosphere of the show perfectly.
Canon knowledge required: the premise
Care and Feeding of your Janet by samalander, The Good Place
1.2k, gen, instruction manual
Summary: Please read this guide carefully before activating your Janet.
Why I like it: I had a lot of fun imagining a Janet with vampirism.
Canon knowledge required: probably not
Turn of the Season by Tangerine, Akatsuki no Yona
5.2k, gen
Summary: Four dragons embark on an adventure of great bonding.
Why I like it: Bonding! I really like the character voices of the dragons and their relationships.
Canon knowledge required: Probably yes.
Continuing On by Darkicedragon, Noblesse
6.6k, gen
Summary: M-21 knows how this works. He's been in the Union all these years; he knows what it's like to be under the roof of scientists. So why aren't Frankenstein and his master playing by the same rules?
Why I like it: M-21 finds it very strange to be treated like a person and I have feelings.
Canon knowledge required: Probably not
keep you safe and sound by egelantier, The Fire's Stone
1.7k, Aaron/Darvish/Chandra, h/c
Summary: They’d come if they knew how, he thought, and touched this thought with his swollen tongue like a piece of sweet forbidden fruit. If they knew how, they’d come. I believe that now. I’m grateful to die knowing that.
Why I like it: I was pretty sure I had recced this before but apparently not? Very nice h/c and lots of feelings about Aaron and Aaron/Darvish/Chandra.
Canon knowledge required: probably helpful but not necessary
