Pink butterflies in green fields
Dec. 17th, 2020 11:49 pmI came home from work at 8pm today because we're very busy at work (I have a looong rant about what the fuck the ministry of finance is currently doing when it comes to subsidies), and then I watched an episode of Taskmaster with DD both because it's fun and because I thought it was best to ensure early that I wouldn't spend all evening playing Hades ^^ We all got wine bottles from a client at the office today so we had a glass of wine too (we had to borrow a corkscrew from a neighbor, and then it took us a few minutes to figure out how it worked because it was a weird one), and I was soon reminded that I get tipsy very quickly.
Then: more Hades! Yesterday was fun, but today I had a fantastic run. My best so far, it took far longer than expected and then it took me half an hour to tell DD all about it.
Yesterday I made it past Meg three times, getting better! Only once to the Bone Hydra though, and I lost but it was very close. I started picking the weapon that gives extra Darkness every time, which means I get to try out all of them, I don't really have a favorite yet. And I realized that I need to use Dash more and tried to practice that.
Today I decided to look for a Duo Boon, especially because the extra part of the Codex that shows which Boons are prerequisites is only available from the Contractor once you got one at least once. And I did! And along the way had my very best run yet :D
Run number 42: I got an Epic Flood Shot from Poseidon first thing (and then an upgrade for that right after), that was very cool because the day before I started to use my Cast more, now that via the Mirror of Night my bloodstones regenerate every three seconds. I was using the bow, until then not my favorite, but I was mostly running around avoiding enemies and using Cast, and other shots every once in a while. Then I got Deadly Strike from Artemis (I forgot to give her nectar again), a Daedalus Hammer (Sniper Shot, not ideal but by that point I didn't think I'd get very far and I hadn't taken that one yet), a detour through Chaos' realm (eventually giving me more Darkness and Gems, nice) then Divine Dash, and then, finally, in Elysium, my first Duo Boon: Mirage Shot, a Cast upgrade, very convenient.
I had defeated Meg five times so far and obviously Hades was unhappy with her performance, so this time I met her sister Alecto. Which I thought was a bad omen because I was unfamiliar with her and her attacks, but I basically just ran and Dashed around and used Flood Shot every once in a while, and I actually won! I made it out of Tartarus with five weapons so far (but I forgot exactly which five – I think I haven't done it with the spear? Not sure.)
So then, Asphodel again. A new mini boss challenge this time, a Megagorgon + Skull Crusher combination. And then the Bone Hydra. I won! With two HP (and no Death Defiance) left, but a win is a win :)
I didn't think I'd get very far in Elysium, but in the end I made it ten chambers in – meaning I died in the chamber right before the Champions. I met Thanatos for the first time! And I met and defeated both a Soul Catcher and its evil butterflies and Asterius the minotaur! I got killed by a group of Elite Exalted because there were so many of them that with my low health I had to run around very quickly, didn't have time to aim, and didn't manage to destroy their Disarmed Souls before they reformed. Grr.
Still, it was a fantastic run! When I got back I finally had the diamond to free Orpheus, which fulfilled a prophecy, which gave me enough gems to both buy the Boon Codex addition and a fountain chamber in Elysium. Meg and Than were talking in the lounge, and I look forward to hopefully encountering them more often now.
Now I still need to upload my Yuletide fic (fortunately I still have a few times for some polishing), and then go to bed not too late. Tomorrow I'll get a new haircut – I want to cut my hair short (well, chin-length) for the first time in years, mostly out of curiosity – and on Saturday my new glasses, I'm excited.

Date: 2020-12-18 07:20 am (UTC)duos are the most fun you can have in hades with clothes on! if you have this update in the mirror, i recommend maxing it out and using it instead of the other one, because it's duos that make you an unstoppable killing machine. once you get the relevant keepsakes, try angling for Hunting Blades. a happy blender of death!
