Still escaping

schneefinkSome more about Hades! It's been a while since I posted about it - I'm at 241 escape attempts now.
I finally reached 16 heat with 80% god mode for the second statue over a month ago, then decided to stop using god mode. I died twice, but then managed 17 heat with Zeus shield! Then 9 heat with Achilles, with a very fun Crystal Clarity + Mirage Shot + Glacial Glare etc. build.
Another fun build I got was Chiron bow with Heroic Drunken Flourish, Ice Wine, Scintillating Feast, and the Hermes Legendary; plus Concentrated Volley, Relentless Volley, and a Special bonus from Chaos.
And three weeks ago I finally beat Hades on EM4, on my first try!! With Achilles spear, Hermes Legendary, epic Phalanx Shot, Deadly Reversal, Calculated Risk etc. (Haven't tried it again since…)
After that I reduced heat for a little while to try to get used to certain pact conditions on their own, especially Middle Management. Right now I'm constantly raising the heat again, but this time without Tight Deadline so I don't have to rush so much. My highest heat (without god mode) is still 17 with the shield, followed by 16 with the fists (and I just realized I never escaped with the sword without using god mode, huh.)
Yesterday I finally got my last Steam achievement (purging a Legendary boon), so now I'm at 100%, nice. Next goals: apart from getting more bounties to upgrade more weapons, and eventually hopefully getting that third statue, I'm also saving up darkness for the Chaos theme. And I want to catch all the fish! Still missing three…
Two days ago I finally freed Sisyphus. Idk, his storyline never interested me that much, and I probably read too many fics that made me suspicious of his motives ^^ But it was kinda nice.
I wonder if I'll find out eventually how Sisyphus got Shady…
It was also confirmed that Zagreus used to do Tartarus inspections and that's how he met Sisyphus for the first time, I'd wondered about that.
I sort of want a Sisyphus & Megaera fic… Ah well, "Hades fics I want (to exist but not to write)" is a whole separate post.
I also finally got the Meg/Than/Zag threesome scene, that was cute. Zag also asked Persephone about her relationship with Hades (going well, apparently) and briefly thinks they want another kid (which Persephone denies), probably not a good idea because of the Fates but big brother Zagreus would be cute.
And both Hypnos and Zagreus were featured servants of the House a few times and very surprised by it. Zagreus even thinks it must be a mistake at one point.
Zagreus: "So tell me, father. Just how much did it hurt your soul knowing my face is up there on the Featured Houseservant Board, for all in the lounge to see?"
Hades: "Has it occurred to you that I, alone, have final say about whose countenance is shown up there? Although, others who shall not be named did put in a good word for you, repeatedly."
Zagreus: "Blood and darkness… all my life I thought that board was a joke. But seeing my face up there… it felt good. Thanks, father. Maybe it won't be the last time."
Hades: "See to it. And… well done."
Aww, progress.
Hypnos was also very excited about his own commendation. And he called Zagreus his best friend! When I started playing I found Hypnos annoying but not anymore, and now I also feel very sorry for him. He's the god of sleep settled with an administrative job, constantly berated for struggling with falling asleep (his divine domain!), and both his brother and his mother focus first and foremost on his job performance – his mother even stopped talking to him! (I lost quite a bit of respect for Nyx as a mother for how she treats Hypnos.)
I still haven't gotten around to making a Hades fic rec list, but I should, there's quite a few that I enjoy. I started writing a few stories but none of them went anywhere.
I'm also regularly watching Hades streams, especially the speedrunning competitions, the Hermes Cup and the new Hyper Delivery. They're a lot of fun, and watching Hades streams is also great for getting tips and ideas. (duunk0 e.g. does great commentary and makes great faces.) DD and I watched a few together and it was funny to compare watching hockey games and watching Hades streams.
Listening to the Hidden Aspects podcast (mostly while either running or doing the dishes) is also great for getting ideas and inspiration for builds.
And, in the category of "crossover I did not expect," the last time DD and I played the TAZ: Bureau of Balance boardgame we played two characters each and DD played (pre-reunion) Patroclus, who was sent/made a deal with Thanatos to keep an eye on a priest who'd rediscovered the cult of Zagreus. That was fun. I played a former assassin/death cult member and Amy the forty year old town clerk who found out that she had magic by accident one day and took a sabbatical to get it under control. We defeated the dragon protecting its hoard of memory crystals in the temple of the All-Seeing Eye (because why not add another stealth crossover, though we did decide against the dragon being, no TMA spoilers, you-know-who), it was a lot of fun and we will probably use that party again.
