I got my third vaccine shot yesterday so today I have a terrible headache (and some other more minor side effects), which sucks. It did make me realize just how long it's been since I've been sick, I almost forgot how much I hate knowing that I should keep my eyes closed and not do much while being so bored. I might be able to do some writing but playing games is definitely a bad idea and I'm grumpy.
Unsorted notes from Wheel of Time episode 6:
- Moiraine saying "let me be clear" is hilarious, that woman never gives a straight answer to anything (as she immediately proved yet again), and Lan is little better. No wonder Nynaeve is frustrated, I would be too if I had to deal with them.
- I liked seeing Moiraine scheming. Her and Siuan Sanche having their own secret plan is great (and them being lovers too.) At least Moiraine is more subtle about it than Liandrin, who was extremely blatant in her power plays (and probably wants to become the Amyrlin Seat herself.) We didn't see how Siuan chose to reprimand her…
- Moiraine having something to blackmail Liandrin with was nice, but otoh Liandrin now also knows how important this is to Moiraine that she'd use this piece of blackmail that she's presumably been holding onto for a while. (She was away for two years, so more than that, probably.)
- I don't know what Moiraine was playing at when she only told Egwene and Perrin that Mat and Rand are alive, and not that they are already in the city and she's met them, and that Nynaeve is alive too. She didn't lie but only on a technicality, and it's not like it would be hard for Egwene and Perrin to even accidentally discover that Moiraine didn't tell the whole truth. What purpose did that serve?
- I liked Moiraine's blue dress with the leather shoulder parts.
- I wonder what Siuan told Egwene and Nynaeve to make them go along with Moiraine's plan for now, especially Nynaeve, considering the vague not-answers Nynaeve got. All well and good to tell them the Wheel has a plan for them but Nynaeve wants to know what that plan is and who thinks she should do what and why, and that's very understandable. And that justified distrust is already creating problems. If Nynaeve could trust Moiraine to give a straight answer she probably wouldn't have hesitated to go to her to help Mat.
- I assume Mat stayed behind because he's certain he's not the Dragon and either would just slow the others down/be a danger to them or at least not help and be in danger himself. I heard that, Doylist, it's because the actor had to leave, but it could still work.

I'm assuming it's to a) show the audience how easily Moiraine lies (for someone sworn not to, she very effectively misleads others) and b) to stop the Two Rivers folks from bolting once they all found each other. After all, that was Nynaeve's original plan -- to find the others and then figure out what they all wanted to do. So keeping them separated and waiting for each other at least keeps them all in the city for now.

Date: 2021-12-12 09:15 am (UTC)Hm, possibly, but she could have just said something along the lines of "they're in the city, but you might be in danger [true], you'll be able to meet them soon"? Nynaeve possibly not, but I think Egwene would have listened. Short-term it might have been to her benefit, but for her later plans it would be useful for them to trust her.
