I got poked for the fourth time on Friday, so as expected I spent the entire day yesterday useless for anything. But I took two naps just to make sure I wouldn't fall asleep during MCC, and fortunately it worked.
Originally I wasn't sure which team to watch, but in the evening it became very clear that I wasn't up to following anything too chaotic and so I watched Phil on the Violet Vampires with fruitberries, Oli Orionsound, and Shubble. I had a great time. They had a lot of fun the entire time, they never excelled or even won one game but they always did good and had some nice comebacks, and they ended up in first place and then won!
I like the new Parkour Warrior, and the Grid Runner rooms. I was glad Phil had a better time during Meltdown this time, and I cheered when RSR chosen as the last game even though I was a little sad to have no SoT for the, what, third time in a row? (No BM either, but while I don't hate the game I don't miss it either.) The whole event was very close, Aqua was iirc seventh after the second-to-last game and made DB.
Today I watched Wilbur's VoD, he was on the Green Goblins with Grian, CPK, and Joel Smallishbeans. Only fifteen minutes in Wilbur was devastated about not winning an ebay auction for a tamagotchi and, after finding out he's the youngest on the team, asked if that means he can be the TommyInnit of the group. As almost always he wasn't using a team skin, but instead his entire team was using his skin, which looked really weird xD And meant he didn't get hit with the punishment sheet ghost skin, like Tommy did for the second time. These guys were hilarious together, at times it was like a fun podcast with incidental Minecraft. Slightly less chaotic and more focused than Wilbur and Grian's previous team, probably because both Phil and Scott's performances are generally so team-dependent. They ended up 6th, less than 1k coins from 2nd.
Maybe I'll watch Tubbo on Blue too eventually because he got drunk during the event and apparently it was hilarious.
I forgot to post about MCC #25:
I watched Phil live that time too, on the Pink Parrots with Wilbur, Grian, and Scott Smajor. It was very chaotic and funny. Of course Wilbur invited Grian to join his D&D group ^^ Here are some highlights. Also:
- Phil: "Chat you're overusing the Wilburing emoji, that's not him wilburing, that's just him explaining a sandwich."
- Phil showing that Grian posted an "everything is fine (chaos in the background)" gif in discord while Wilbur is doing, uh, a thing. Shortly before Wilbur and Scott started singing loudly and badly.
- Wilbur joking asking Grian what he really thinks of him, Grian saying he thinks Wilbur is pretty cool, everyone aww-ing, then Wilbur saying he wished he could say it's reciprocated, Grian saying he's leaving, and Wilbur trying to explain without outright saying it that he meant that Grian is much better than just "pretty cool."
They ended up in last place but by that point I don't think anyone cared that much.
I later watched Jojosolos on the Green Geckos with CPK, Joel, and GoodTimesWithScar. That was a fun team too, with great skins, and they did really well.

Date: 2022-10-23 01:26 pm (UTC)I love having Parkour Warrior back, it was always my favorite to watch, weirdly meditative, and I like that they made it a lot easier to finish while still being competitive, too!
They actually had super-well-balanced teams this month, which was cool to see (probably because a bunch of the regulars weren't there, though, and I do hope they'll be back.)

Date: 2022-10-23 02:37 pm (UTC)Phil's stream didn't have top resolution for me either but I was sure the problem was on my end. I lost my internet connection three times, fortunately never during the worst moments but still annoying.
I watched Tubbo briefly before the event because he went live before most others, and his entire team was very concerned about his drinking plan and was trying to convince him that deaths in PKW shouldn't count ^^ Tbf they were initially under the impression that he was planning to take a shot each time. Wilbur's brief visit to Tubbo's VC definitely gave the impression that things were going well *g*
I'm very curious if people will develop strategies for PKW and plan who on the team should focus more on bonus paths and maybe others shouldn't so they have more time to try to hardest ending, idk. The results were so close this time, I wonder what the standings would have looked like if e.g. all the games had been played in opposite order and got different multipliers. (But I don't wonder enough to actually calculate it.)
Apparently many people didn't sign up because they were hoping to be in the Christmas event instead?, let's see if it works out. I also read this was the first time without a first-time winner (although it had been ages for Shubble and Fruit), and without a new player in the event - that one is mostly surprising that it took so long, I don't know exactly but my guess is that there are many more interested players than spots each event.

Date: 2022-10-23 02:47 pm (UTC)I wasn't sure if the Phil issue was me or Phil - I'd think if it was Phil, someone on his chat would have made him fix it! - but I was running from un-logged-in Twitch on browser to a very old, badly configured Chromecast, which gave me a commercial break every time I switched streamers (augh) so when I realized other people's didn't have that problem I just stopped messing with it. But it was bad enough for me I couldn't read any of the onscreen text - it's happened before and usually resolves if I restart the browser but didn't this time.
Wilbur's team skipped pretty much all the bonus paths because they misunderstood and thought if you finished early you could go back and do the bonus paths later, so they got a very quick finish but a low overall score. Strategies are going to change a lot I'm sure now that people have a better idea how it goes - we're definitely going to see a lot fewer early finishers at least, now that people know just how close they can cut it and still finish.
I'm surprised they didn't have any first-timers too, with that many people out, but I guess at this point they have a big enough stable of occasional players that most people who qualify have been in a few times? Dunno! A couple of people who were listed as being on Christmas instead swapped in as last-minute substitutes, so I don't know how that's going to work.

Date: 2022-10-23 03:00 pm (UTC)Two substitutes on one team, and one of them Antfrost, who ended up #8 individual, for Skeppy - good thing that team was statistically weak to begin with otherwise that could have been very unbalanced. Fruit joked about Illumina being ready to sub in and the rest of his team immediately said that there isn't really anyone you could replace with Illumina and keep it fair (so Fruit offered to leave instead but they weren't happy with that suggestion ^^)

Date: 2022-11-11 03:12 pm (UTC)I won't be watching anything except maybe dodgebolt live unfortunately because we had an extra Saturday in October so my every-other-Saturday work schedule has gotten de-synced for awhile from the once-a-month MCC schedule. :( But I'm going to watch the minute I get home and I'm planning to avoid spoilers so hopefully the curse will still hold!

Date: 2022-11-11 03:31 pm (UTC)I'll probably watch FBM on Purple because of all the hype about how good he apparently is, I'm curious and I enjoy watching good players.
When MCC Underdogs was announced Ranboo told Scott he didn't want a pity prize, so now I'm kinda hoping he won't win this one either xD And tbh with his team it's not likely. Hopefully he'll get a good team next MCC. Iirc he's the player who's been waiting the second longest for their first win, after Pearl.

Date: 2022-11-11 03:36 pm (UTC)I've still been watching a lot of Hermitcraft though and Impulse and Bdubs are both very fun to watch, they should be a great duo and with an actual good player on the team they might actually have a chance! (I say, cursing them thereby.)

Date: 2022-11-11 04:33 pm (UTC)But yeah the thing about the Hermits is they have been really good friends and professional Minecrafters for almost ten years, so even though some of them still aren't very good at competition-type stuff (some of them just learned about using boats to avoid fall damage *last week*? Some of them regularly flub the level of parkour even I can do, because they're so used to flying everywhere and using roads? Some of them apparently don't know what an axe crit is, despite having been in MCC for over a year!) they will always be very entertaining on a team together.
But they tend to pick up new skills fast once they notice they exist, and if they've been training, that explains why Impulse and Bdubs haven't been super active in the Hermitcraft storyline this week. Maybe they do have a good chance at winning!
I definitely shouldn't watch them then.no subject
Date: 2022-11-11 05:02 pm (UTC)and only a tiny bit envious.I always find it hilarious when people play Minecraft for a living and yet are unexpectedly unfamiliar with vanilla Minecraft mechanics (e.g. Techno early in SMP Earth.) But yeah, I'm sure they'll learn fast, and even though MCC is not easy for newcomers I'm sure they'll do well and have a good time :)
