I finally did it! It was great.
But let's start from where we left off.

I'm rethinking my plan to collect a dozen cats in my enchanting room: the constant meowing is starting to get on my nerves. I'm just glad my cow pit and my chicken pit are far enough away from my base that I don't hear them. I know I could mute but I like the purring – sometimes, and when it's not too many cats at once.

I got a second trident! So now I had one to put Loyalty and Channeling on, once I got Channeling. This trident I got during a thunderstorm, which is very fitting. One of the very very few thunderstorms I decided not to sleep through. Cost me half of the roof (I didn't realize the surroundings of a lightning rod could still burn) but totally worth it.

This is where I took a break of about a week and a half to focus on studying, because the next two big things I wanted to do was go back to the bastion and, more importantly, kill the dragon, and I definitely did not have time for that (and also I wanted to do it when I was less stressed.)

But after my last exam was over I finally had time to play again! I'm still afraid of falling into lava and dying (even though I have fire resistance potions now) so I planned to go to the bastion and make a nether portal there so I could make an overworld base and also get stuff from my ender chest etc. I did find the bastion but I'd forgotten to bring obsidian, very smart. However the bastion is in a crimson forest so at least I finally got crimson wood and weeping vines, and then I went back to redecorate my base. I was hoping I could use weeping vines to easily climb down into caves etc. but sadly I cannot place them while climbing down, not like I can place twisting vines while climbing up. So I would have to carry bonemeal with me and I don't think it's worth it, it'd be easier on my inventory to just do water bucket mlg and then use twisting vines to climb up again. They still look cool though.

I then got distracted planning to re-build half of my base and enchanting. (Still no Channeling – I had such bad luck, I checked the internet at least three times if it is even attainable via the enchantment table.) But on the weekend I decided to finally brave the bastion remnant. I made it there, saw that the bastion was way bigger than I had thought it would be, and got killed by a piglin brute about two minutes after entering >.< (With a score of 23.494 because I hadn't died in a while.) Really glad I wasn't wearing my best armor and items. I watched some videos on bastions afterwards and found out that the type of bastion remnant I found is called a treasure bastion, and they have the most valuable loot but are also the most dangerous variant. The weekend after that (no brain for Minecraft until then, it was a busy week) I went back to get my stuff back but even though I was fairly sure it had not been five minutes in-game yet it had all despawned already, boo.

Instead of trying again immediately I did some more remodeling of my base, but I wasn't entirely happy with my ideas so it got stuck in a weird in-between state. I should have taken a picture before I started changing things. I did some more villager trading to get, among other things, a full set of diamond tools (excluding a hoe,) and I finally got Channeling for my second trident! Which meant more level grinding so I could max it out (with Channeling, Loyalty III, Impaling V, Unbreaking III, Mending), and now I'm really looking forward to the next thunderstorm; there was only one since but I was down in a cave and it ended before I could make it out. Shortly afterwards I got another trident so now I even have a spare one, very nice.

I also finally tried out potions, specifically Slow Falling (super convenient and it feels like I'm floating) and more importantly Nightvision in the large cave under my base. It looks so cool! Nightvision helped me find several more diamond veins (not that I really need more diamonds right now, but I still want them.) I also discovered entire new sections of the cave, and I couldn't even explore all of it because I ran out of torches. I already found three geodes there! Three! Two of them are practically right next to each other, only fifteen blocks apart. Now I almost need to figure out something cool to build with amethyst blocks. (Especially since I just learned from the wiki that you can craft them from amethyst shards, so they're even a renewable resource. I tried to craft a block with nine shards before and that didn't work, I didn't even think to try it with just four.)

I came back with more torches, but that time I ended my exploration early because not only was my inventory full, but I also decided to do some more weapon & tool enchantments first. Upgrade all the things! I decided to start naming them. I named my lightning trident "High Voltage" because I randomly thought about an SGA vid with that name, and now I'm considering naming the Riptide trident "Liquid Bird" after another SGA vid. (Turns out if I want to name something while enchanting it only adds one level of enchantment cost, but if I only name something it can cost many more levels, boo.) If I want to stay with the theme, maybe "Here It Goes Again" for the Infinity bow?, idk.

And then I decided to finally kill the ender dragon!! I was so excited, and nervous. The end portal looks so cool when activated, like you're actually looking into void, I love it. I entered the End on a block of obsidian near the island, and while I was still debating whether I wanted to bridge over or throw an ender pearl (I have very little practice throwing ender pearls) the dragon attacked and almost threw me into the void already! I was wearing a carved pumpkin so the endermen wouldn't attack me which meant my sight was restricted, so I tried using F5 but because I usually never do that that was tricky. I used twisting vines to get up the towers with cages, which was a good idea because when the dragon threw me off I fell into vines and didn't take fall damage. I still went down to three or four hearts a few times, it was good I had plenty of golden apples and steak with me. I also had a stack of glass bottles and managed to fill most of them with dragon's breath. I did the most damage to the dragon when it was perched, I even had strength potions, but didn't hit it often most times since I first had to orient myself and then had to not get launched into the air. But finally I did it! I killed the dragon and freed the End :)

I was standing right next to where it perched so I immediately fell back through the end portal when it formed, and the end poem started. It really is beautiful, and the music is great too, I loved it. I'd seen most of the lines at the end before in quotes, but of course it's different as part of a whole. (It's in the public domain now, nice. Here is the blog post about it.)
I sat through the credits, and I liked the quote at the end too.

I returned to my last respawn point in the nearby village right as the sun was setting, and that was such a great but also weird feeling… it looked like nothing had changed, despite what had just happened.
I immediately went back to the End to collect the experience from killing the dragon and also the dragon egg, as a trophy, and also to locate the end gateway for when I'll come back to explore the end islands. Then I went home.

Next: choosing what to enchant first! Then, in no particular order, exploring the end and getting elytra, exploring the bastion, and building a separate room in the nearby cliff for my cats so I don't have to hear them all the time. Also eventually rebuilding my base and mining for ancient debris and, once I have the wings, exploring further out to find more different biomes… I definitely won't be bored.

DD had killed the dragon about two weeks before me. It took her a long time to find the portal room in the stronghold, but killing the dragon was mostly a question of patience. She did it on her second try, and then she panicked because she fell into the end portal too soon by accident and skipped the end credits ^^
But she'd made a back-up save and so she just killed the dragon again, and then went to the outer islands and found a ship and got elytra.
And then she got bored and started a new world to play early game Minecraft again :) She wants to build her base on top of a mountain, which has some drawbacks in terms of accessibility but the view is great, and clearly that is more important in the long term.
