I didn't have many spoilers this time – pretty much only that August will at some point buy a horse for a girl he's in love with, and it didn't take long to become obvious who that was going to be. And I'm glad I wasn´t spoiled especially for that ending! Whoa, that last episode was dramatic. Wille threatening August with a gun, holy shit. Reminding him how August said the royal family would sweep even murder under the rug and Wille is still the crown prince… and despite that August doesn't reveal that it was Sara! It's Sara who confesses! August is so smitten. He sold a painting to buy Rousseau for her to make her happy, even though he refused to do so last season even to pay his school fees! She is one of two things he clings to this season, the other being the prospect of replacing Wille.
Notable, too, that Felice and Simon don't try to stop Wille, not even when he fires a shot in the air, just saying.
DD said very early on "babygirl is on his vengeful bitch arc," and yeah, not untrue. Understandable though. August betraying him, his mother keeping secrets, the tape, Simon breaking up with him, and his older brother just died recently!! Very happy he at least goes to therapy, Boris is great, but still.
I do appreciate that they show that Wille and Simon deserve each other by having Simon make bad decisions for emotional reasons too. Poor Marcus. He should have cut his losses the first time Simon told him he wasn't ready for a serious relationship.
Felice is too good for everyone. I liked the ill-advised kiss between her and Wille and how they dealt with it, but it sucked that everyone found out, and probably Henry even thought he was doing Wille a favor and Wille didn't even consider telling him not to tell. I feel so sorry for Felice that Sara betrayed her like that. Sara regretted it at the end and the ending implies she tells the police about what August has done, but, too little too late. And of course the one hurting the most from her betrayal is Simon, shit that clearly hurt. Sara is very isolated right now - and she is lucky that Felice did not tell the other girls the full extent of what Sara did because Felice didn't want more people to know about what August did. But, well, odds that everyone will know soon enough...
August is an excellent villain. In the beginning of this season I almost thought they were genuinely going to do an atonement arc for him and prepping that by emphasizing how much pressure he feels he's under etc. etc., and I think there was even a chance that things might have gone that way if not for that sudden lifeline of possibly becoming Wille's replacement. Suddenly he thought there wasn't a need for him to change his ways any longer, and now he even had an incentive to not support Wille. I don't know what the queen was thinking. I mean, I get what she was thinking, but how did she not realize that it's a terrible idea? Did she really want a guy like August to possibly succeed her? Does she think it doesn't matter that August is a terrible person because the monarch doesn't have any power anyway, or does she think that despite the fact that the king has power, better a terrible king than no king at all? Probably more the latter. Ugh. (Theory I like: Jan-Olof utterly despises August but puts his duty to the monarchy above any personal feelings.)
I don't think either Wille but especially not Simon have realized what Wille's status as future king means for them and their relationship. Right now they're both at least somewhat protected by being underage students at Hillerska, but even that can only do so much especially now that Wille has come out and become an even bigger news story, and later on it's only going to get worse. They both still have quite a lot of maturing to do if their relationship is to work out. But, while halfway through the season I kinda thought it would be better for them to break up, now I'm thinking they have a chance of making it maybe. Maybe. Fingers crossed.
Apart from that I'm not sure what I'm hoping for for season 3 (other than someone to ship with Felice, and I don't have high hopes for that tbh.) A good atonement arc and hopeful ending for Sara, and for August... idk if I want him to end in an at least somewhat hopeful place or not. They'd have to sell that very well. Season three is apparently only coming next year, so quite a long wait yet.
