It's been a while since my last Minecraft update.

I spent some time farming etc. to make myself a new bow and sword, gathered some resources for my next exploration mission, and improved the wall around the nearby village. I also figured out how to get the autocrafter to continuously work on its own! Not by myself, I saw it in a video, but still. Just place two observers facing each other, done. Very convenient to have it autocraft dried kelp blocks.
Then it was time for more exploring! First to areas I knew I've been to before, but without a map back then. I found a mountain and decided to look for an ancient city underneath, it was much more difficult than in the last one though because there were underwater caves and lush caves and I was very anxious about mobs for some reason and it took me a while to find a way out. I finally got the edges of the ice biome on a map. And I tamed a Jellie and decided to take her with me, even on a boat. (I ended up accidentally shooting her in a cave while attacked by mobs later :( )

I finally edited my skin! I gave myself short hair, and boots instead of sandals. Minor changes but I'm pleased with how it came out.
I found an armadillo, very cute. I wanted to bring it back to my base with the new fly-with-boats-on-leads trick, but after several failures where the lead broke almost immediately I gave up on that for now. Instead I went to a village for a cartographer and got a trial chamber map. I decided to wait until I had first done a trial chamber together with DD because I think they are probably best in multiplayer; plus on our SMP we don't have fully enchanted gear yet which I think is more the level the trial chambers are made for.

After we did that I tried it on my own and as expected it was still fun, but it's better together with friends. The trial chamber I found is not that big, only three actual rooms with spawners in them and no rooms with beds, but it still took me quite a while to orient myself. Having an ender chest and shulker boxes is very convenient! I thought the spawner cool-down would be annoying but actually most of the time I made it from one end to the other, the first spawner already activated again, or almost. Eventually, after I opened all normal vaults, I built walls around several spawners (all except the slime ones) to prepare for ominous trials. And that (mostly) worked! Unfortunately I only got one ominous trial key on my first attempt and that got me an enchanted golden apple, not bad but not a mace. On my second try I didn't even get an ominous trial key.
I decided that was enough for now, left the trial chamber, and flew(!) back to my base. At night! Pretty cool. Then I wanted to expand my map wall and realized that a) I really should put it on the ground somewhere so I can walk around on it and see things better, b) I appear to have lost at least one map I just made. Very smart of me, no idea how that happened.
I did some chores (including finally building a path through the nether between spawn and base, but it's not a comfortable path yet by far, it includes a narrow bridge over a lava lake etc) and prepared to go back for more exploration.

I've been dragging my feet on building my main base, and I think I should give up my idea of building it at spawn. My spawn point is at the side of a mountain and while the area is very pretty I don't find it very inspiring, I think I'd rather build somewhere flat. My current base is on an island in a lake (surrounded on two sides by cliffs), but I think I might go for just straight up plains. Not too far from spawn either though ideally, I might have to look around a bit more. And with mine carts now able to go through nether portals I'll just have to make myself a direct minecart route from spawn. Either way I definitely have to plan for a cool map display. Currently it's on a cliffside, and it looks cool there but it's already big enough that it's not ideal to look around. Putting it on the floor would be a lot more practical, but I want it to look good (and it needs to have room for expansion!)

At this point I took a break of around two months and played mostly Hades 2, and when I got back to Minecraft bundles were in the game. So convenient! I'm exactly the kind of player they were made for, I always have so many stackable things in smaller numbers. I did some more exploring, then I got a map to another trial chamber to take that on. I got the great idea to store my bundles in a shulker box for even more storage space! Aaand then I lost that shulker box. Uuugh >.< 99% sure I accidentally didn't pick it up again and it despawned. I don't even remember what was in all those bundles I lost, apart from some minerals and mob drops but also quite a few armadillo scutes, a bunch of the rarer flowers, I think even some pottery sherds…

Next I want to double-check I didn't miss anything in that trial chamber and then I want to mine down under the mountains I found nearby to see if I can maybe finally find an Ancient City, that would be cool.

On SMPOfOurOwn DD and I spent almost two hours trading in hopes of getting a trial chamber map, only to find out at the end that the server update to 1.21 hadn't worked correctly… >.<
When we next managed to play together, weeks later, the update had worked! So we leveled up two more cartographers until we finally got a trial chamber map. (We have so many cartographers now, we're planning to eventually build an exploration tower on the other side of the river and confine them there to make the village less crowded.)
The trial chamber was a lot of fun. The two most difficult aspects were navigation – we got lost often – and inventory management, since we don't have ender chests much less shulker boxes yet so we kept running back to stash things in our chests/barrels. I was also surprised how challenging it is that all the rooms have several levels, falling off is very easy – thankfully we both have Feather Falling already!
We even took on ominous trials, which was cool. Unfortunately we had to leave because our (diamond!) armor was breaking, we didn't put Mending or Unbreaking on most of it and vastly overestimated the durability.
So we made our way back to our village and will now spend some time making new armor, improving the surviving pieces, etc. etc. DD has been very busy at work so we didn't get to play together often recently, unfortunately.
