MCC: end of season 3 + season 4
Jan. 6th, 2025 02:23 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I'm cleaning out my post drafts and realized I haven't posted any of my MCC notes since – August 2023, wow.
MCC Twitch Rising: GoodTimesWithScar on the Aqua Axolotls, with Hbomb94, GeminiTay, and ImpulseSV
The first in-person MCC event! Very cool. I didn't take many notes during this one but it was a great time. [That was in October 2023. Time flies.]
Can't believe Aqua – team Hermits + Hbomb - are actually wearing the Pokémon skins xD (someone write the fic where Hbomb "collecting" Hermits is more sinister…)
During Meltdown: they all want to play Decked Out instead xD Hbomb wonders if that makes him a Hermitcrafter, Impulse says it's an automatic in once he collected all of them, Hbomb says he needs to get Bdubs and Etho (even though the one he has the best chance of getting one day because they even said they are planning to play again is Cleo.)
Speculating that Etho is hiding in the audience xD
Scar calling Impulse Daddy Hermitcraft because it makes him uncomfortable, and saying he hopes Grian is watching
"Torches in the off-hand" before Skybattle xD
Their strat in the last two rounds of Skybattle to just build a tiny hut and hide was amazing.
Goo Yellow Yaks they are doing amazing :D Scar predicted Cub would win from the beginning.
Perfect that they had yellow jerseys to support Cub, even.
MCC Rising: Aerington on the Orange Ocelots/Legundo on the Blue Bats
Started out watching Orange Ocelots (Aerington on a team with Binnish, Lokiolr, and Peeporp) in Sands of Time, great vibes but I'm so over watching teams die first in Meltdown so I switched over to Legundo on the Blue Bats/team Hardcore with Taneesha, SwitchBackMongo and NotNotBrock, who did fantastic in Meltdown, Legundo was a very good team leader. I stayed with team Hardcore for the rest of the event and had a lot of fun. I got lucky with that I think because Orange did quite well in Sands of Time – or rather they did not terrible and got third with that because soo many people got locked out.
Sands of Time played first, that was probably good because SoT is quite hard for beginners and if it had been later it would have brought morale down more, but like this everyone could laugh about it.
Grid Runners was fun as always, and both Orange and Blue did quite well.
Then Meltdown, then Ace Race. I was glad there was no audience vote this time. Letting them choose from all possible games was cool too.
Survival Games is not one of my favorites, but Blue did alright.
Then Rocket Spleef Rush, and whoooa, Blue did amazing. Three of the top five players and I'm pretty sure a new team point record. Team hardcore trained by Philza himself so that's what you get :)
Then Build Mart! I really like Build Mart, I was very happy to see it played. So was Blue, but unfortunately they ended up not doing as well as they'd hoped – fifth is fine but the other teams that were also in contention for second place did better.
Last game was Battle Box, and that was very tense because of how close it was. Unfortunately Blue ended up not making it to DB. Cyan vs Lime, and Lime won for the first time!
Blue in the individual standings: places 9 – 12 ^^
MCC Party: Grian on the Green Geckos with Joel, Jimmy, and Oli
I watched Grian on the Green Geckos with Joel, Jimmy, and Oli. I remember I had a good time, but I didn't take any notes and don't remember that much. Checking the stats, not surprised that Grian got first in Build Mart once again ^^
MCC 35: GoodTimesWithScar on the Ginger Breadman with bekyamon, FireBreathMan, and Owengejuice
Another one I didn't take notes for and barely remember, only here for completeness' sake.
That was the end of season three. During the breaktime I decided to watch an older one that was frequently recommended:
MCC 9, Grian on the Pink Parrots with Martyn InTheLittleWoodd, Joel Smallishbeans, and Jimmy SolidarityGaming: the Lords
That was in September 2020, back when Grian was only just getting to know Joel… Weird ^^
I was wondering how the whole "lord" thing came about, turns out it was Martyn telling a story about a friend of his who mentioned you could buy a lordship after Grian talked about fundraising for a school in Ghana that is organized by a local mayor, which in Ghana is called a queen. First they set ridiculous goals for if they get first, then not last, then they decide on lordships if they get eighth or above, fantastic. I am unsurprised that it was Martyn's idea!
Joel didn't seem to know what an axolotl is! So I checked and MCC 9 was in September 2020 and axolotls were announced at Minecon 2020 in October, so one month later he definitely would have known. Grian apparently had two axolotls called Professor Nibbles and Caroline? xD
Skybattle first, and Martyn immediately starts calling Grian My Lord and then the others do it too, they all call each other my lord throughout the whole event xD (but especially Martyn. Again I am unsurprised.) Blue wins the first round and only then did I remember that this is the famed Blue Bats MCC! That's going to be fun. And Techno and Calvin are playing together on Aqua with Spifey and Finn, nice. (I think I remember them not doing very well though.) They win the second round, and then Orange with a clear win in the third round.
Wow, old Parkour Warrior was rough. Grian was stuck on a glass pane parkour part for over six minutes. The new version is definitely better.
HitW is not my favorite game.
Then Battle Box. Martyn making fun of Scott for putting himself on a team with Phil, Wilbur, and Tommy – spreadsheet, sure ^^ After losing to Aqua, Grian writing in chat: "I thought we were friends" xD
Grian is so busy reading out donations ^^
Then Ace Race, and then finally Survival Games! Grian: "oh, rough." xD And then only a few minutes in he killed Dream, Fundy, and Tubbo! :D And died soon afterwards but he didn't even care. He wants his lordship now xD Sadly they're still in last place. Woow I remembered the Blue Bats dominated SG but not by this much, 7k, hooly.
Sands of Time finale and they came second!! And ended up eighth overall! They're Lords! :D
I of course remembered that Blue won but not that it was a reverse sweep :)
They did all get their lordships afterwards: Lord Grian Dreamslayer, Lord Martyn Moneymaker, Lord Joel Jumperman, and Lord Timmy Top Placer. Amazing.
Finally another MCC! Season four is the end of the numbered events and of the clear canon/non-canon separation. (I didn't mind but I know some stats nerds struggled.) And they have team announcements now and little team builds pre-event, very cute.
MCC Season 4 Kick-off: GoodTimesWithScar, on the Green Geckos with FireBreathMan, Joel Smallishbeans, and Xisuma
Season four started with a banger. With ten Hermits! Very cool.
Very excited for this team, I usually watch Scar for MCC and of course for Star Wars day. And FBM and Joel! I knew they had a rivalry of sorts (someone made fanart of them in a get-along t-shirt), I learned later from Joel's stream that they actually put each other down as preferred teammate for the past several MCCs ^^ Speaking of rivalry, Scar at the beginning said Shane would carry the team (Shane deflected) and Joel seemed slightly miffed ^^
Of course they had Star Wars skins, that was great: Xisuma as C3-PO, Joel as Leia, Scar as Luke, and Shane as Han. Leading to fun moments like Scar saying Joel is his sister but they're not going to kiss – Joel: "not yet" – and mentions of how Joel and Shane have a kid. In the movies. Another great moment was Shane asking Scar for Star Wars trivia, Joel and X were horrified but Scar was delighted (and it was ultimately so short it barely qualified as a Scar Star Wars talk.) And of course they built the Millenium Falcon on their team "plot." FBM was just watching the other three work together without even talking; Hermits.
Tubbo came into Scar's chat to wish him luck, Scar didn't see because the event had already started but during the break he said to tell Tubbo he misses him, aww.
Grian also came into Scar's chat to say he's supporting him, with the fun twist that he did that in every Hermit's chat and also Jimmy's (saying he's supporting only him, even) and even sent a Discord message to Etho. Fun detail that that was his first message in Cub's chat apparently ^^
Green Geckos did very well! Especially in the beginning, third in Sky Battle, second in Rocket Spleef Rush (FBM apologized a dozen times for killing Etho once, heh), second in Battle Box (with one amazing clutch round win by Joel even though he was lagging), third in TGTTOS. Their worst placements were fourth in Railroad Rush and Hole in the Wall, they even got third in Bingo even though Scar got very frazzled in the beginning. I really enjoyed their Sands of Time too (so glad that was played!) Scar was very calm and did great as Sandkeeper, X did great for a firsttimer, and Joel got stressed out about a puzzle but they still did really well. If that puzzle hadn't glitched they would have made Dodge Bolt, according to Joel, bad luck. (Also apparently they would have made DB in unmultiplied coins, as well as in reverse order.) Silver lining, now I could be happy about Kara finally winning again after her first win in MCC 1. Red did very well, they won the new game too.
In Green Geckos, Shane got first, Joel seventh (!), Scar 33rd and X 35th, quite the point distribution. Tbh I'm happy that FBM got first individual, not only because I like Shane but also because Feinberg's fans would have been insufferable if he'd actually gotten first. Scott joked about Feinberg never being allowed in the event again because he's too good, guess we'll see. It was pretty funny that after all the speculation that he would never be allowed to join, Feinberg was the first player announced for season 4.
I enjoyed Railroad Rush and I look forward to seeing how strategies will develop once people learn the game better. The prediction game on the website is a good idea but I think could be done better (reminder to vote, vote button maybe, idk) The building plot for team introductions was a great change. My least favorite change perhaps is no elevator :( Such a shame, that was always a fun moment.
MCC S4 K-O: TangoTek on the Pink Parrots, with ImpulseSV, Etho, and Skizzleman
Team TIES! Scott approached them because he wanted the season to start with a bang, great choice. Tango's debut! Hee mentioned before that he was interested in the games but knew he wouldn't do well so the competitiveness didn't really appeal to him, so a team like that with good friends and absolutely no pressure was perfect for him. First event for Skizz too, and the unexpected return of Etho, who got a second pass on streaming. I really enjoyed their practice streams with Jojo and/or each other too. They all didn't change their skins so Etho wouldn't stand out ^^ Though Tango wore a fantastic pink Iago parrot shirt in real Life.
Their team tower was the tower from Limited Life, with a pink tie! Perfect.
Etho always imagined Scar with a red light saber, make of that what you will.
As expected they had a bad time during Battle Box. At one point Etho mentioned Grian's message of support and all of them were excited.
TGTTOSAWAF: "just follow Jojo…" after that one they were the last four individual after that one. Ah well ^^
Tango: "If I was on a quote-unquote real team, I would be more miserable. The fact that it's us…"
Railroad Rush! That's fun, nobody knows it so it's a level playing field. Skizz looks for a big vein, Etho reminds them to keep it PG. They have so much fun with this one, and end up fourth!
They got last in Bingo but Fast but still had a good time. Even Tango, even though Smallant stole his crafting bench ^^
Etho: the game we're doing best at is the voting ^^
They also did very badly at HitW. Which, fair, not that interesting a game imo.
They all really want to play SoT :)
Tango is confused by everyone in chat greeting Hbomb ^^
Sands of Time: Tango had terrible luck, got stuck on a ladder and died pretty much immediately. He was very frustrated by that, seemed to lose a lot of excitement and was very down on himself and very disappointed. (To the point where chat was so concerned, Tango had to clarify next stream that it wasn't that serious.) They weren't even first ones out, and nobody got stuck in the cage! They got ninth. All of them liked it, only Tango got super tilted.
They talk again about how their team was never meant to be balanced, and then joke that Impulse and Skizz must have offended Scott when he appeared on their podcast somehow.
Right after the event Jojo joined their call to ask how it went, aww. They confirmed that her training helped – "we didn't really prove it to you but it helped" ^^ Scott then also joined and joked about making this team again in an event with the Simmers so they can play for ninth. Then Scar and Joel join and complain about Tango and Skizz punching them in TGTTOS xD and Shane, Cub, False, Xisuma, Iskall…
Hermit group photo :)
Then a discussion of all the games but Tango had to leave.
MCC Pride 2024: ZombieCleo on Lime Llamas, with Xisuma, 5up, and Wallibear
I was hoping Cleo would be back for MCC Pride! She even practiced a bit the day before, but she was also still recovering from Covid. Nevertheless they did decently well, and team comms were also good. I had some trouble keeping 5up and Walli apart, but I think it was 5up who did an especially good job organizing. I really enjoyed BuildMart, and Bingo too, and GridRunners; basically all team games. The team did okay in other games too, even Meltdown, and ended up 8th.
Unsurprisingly Cyan, a re-run of Cyan 24, won, with a huge lead, and all four of them in the top 10 individual, with jojo winning yet again.
MCC Twitch Rivals Europe
It's funny, when I started watching MCC I didn't know who these Hermits were people kept talking about or why they were such a big deal, and now when MCC TR 2, the second in-person MCC, only had one Hermit I was immediately less interested in the event ^^ I missed most of it because of RL plans. Another Build Mart that Scar missed!
I watched the German team for fun and because I could; I was half-heartedly rooting against them because I didn't know anyone on their team but then it was sad when they lost too.)
They originally said there weren't going to be canon and non-canon events in season four, but this one was clearly non-canon because the winners of the Pride event still had the winner crowns in the next event.
The Ender Cup
An MCC officially partnered with Minecraft! Very cool. Special graphics celebrating the history of the game, all new maps, and the winners will get a special trophy. Noxcrew did a great job with all of it.
GoodTimesWithScar on the Yellow Yaks, with Jimmy Solidarity, Shane FireBreathMan, and guqqie
Banana squad! No idea how they came up with that theme, probably on a practice stream?, I think they did one that Jimmy streamed. As their team build they did a banana boat. And made fun of Lime, a team with Grian and Joel on it, for building a dirt hut.
apparently Grian DM'd Jim saying he'll kill him in the event xD
yellow has now decided to target lime. they checked, it's not against the rules. Then they realized they have horns in the inventory and play around with them until the admins take them away ^^ of course Scar started it.
Very cool laser show.
Fruit won all three round of Skybattle, hoooly smokes. Many viewers then said he was the first to ever do that, deliberately omitting Illumina in MCC 28 – tbh I'm not a fan of just omitting what happened like that, and newer fans might not even realize that's what's happening but oh well I don't care that much either. (Speaking of, Illumina was on some really great teams like Green 28 and Aqua 30 – okay half the reason I liked Aqua 30 was because of the amazing skins tbh – but at least not as many that I potentially would have been interested in rewatching as Wilbur was: Purple 4, Orange 7, Pride 21, Pink 25 and Green 26; plus so many other videos. The reveals about both of them made me much more, hm, cautious about CCs for a while. You can never really know if they're shitheads in their personal life. Some of them I'm fairly confident in but…)
SG: Jimmy killed Joel! But right after Yellow ran into three teams and got eliminated, unlucky. Apparently FBM really struggled with lag in the early games, also bad luck.
Scar is playing with his soundbites again: Etho, Mumbo...
yellow feels bad because Joel turned off his camera
Scar is so stressed about parkour oh boy. He's doing well! But his nerves… Now singing "science and discovery" xD He got 15th!! "Cub's gonna be proud, I hope he's watching" when he found out, aww. He said he's doing at least one round of parkour warrior every day for practice, looks like it paid off! Ace Race: another new map, the maps are a cool mechanic. For a second Scar thought there was another run and when he started flying thought he'd just caught the wind really well xD Jimmy got 8th!
Scar is talking to his artbook again ^^
people keep coming to over to Scar's stream to complain about Grian putting them on hold.
Scar didn't quite understand "man it would be so funny if Grian stepped away during the break and put his audience on break"
now Scar is doing it too!
I love the meltdown nether atmosphere. Jimmy was silent in one round because his cat unplugged his audio, oops ^^
Yellow attacked by Lime in one round, Scar about Grian: "he's trying to cuteguy us!" Yellow might have gotten away if not for the appearance of Philza Minecraft at the wrong moment. Phil did soo well that MD, whoa.
"Impulse is so buff, look at those arms"
"Banana squad, form up!"
HitW: Tommy typed in chat and then got eliminated ^^
Jimmy: "We kind of want Joel to win not gonna lie. ...My booooy!!!"
Tgttos: Jimmy: "If I see Joel or Grian..." and asked Scar to back him up, Scar said they don't hit first, Jimmy is skeptical
Bdubs in Scar's chat asking how he may assist, Scar immediately says he needs to show him his trees xD
"Bdubs says he loves you Jimmy"
Bdubs actually: "hi jimmy!!! Lo.... ... ... you too"
Scar keeps mentioning how hot he is and now said he feels like he has a knife stuck in his stomach. Chat is very concerned.
yellow KILLED that GR. 3rd! And not so far back from 2nd either. What a comeback.
Jimmy 11!
Scar 28!
fruit first individual with a new point record on an 8th-place team, insane
Scar is so happy Jellie showed up in that update journey, aww.
FBM did a great job commentating DB (even though biased)
The Ender Cup: Grian on Lime Llamas with Joel Smallishbeans, ImpulseSV, and DanTDM
Joel is streaming MCC from Oli's house and Oli is doing soundboard accompaniment and even some piano background music xD
Oli is so much more than Joel's maid, he's his special friend! Completely platonic, of course.
Grian announced himself in the call by claiming Etho's fifty ^^
Grian is critiquing Joel's dirt hut for being too fancy
Grian muses they could all have had assistants, Joel says Mumbo should have been Grian's, Grian says Mumbo could just occasionally practice his guitar badly in the background
Grian disinfects his keyboard for better grip pre-MCC, someone is taking this seriously ^^
Joel explains to Dan: the dirt hut is meant to represent Hermitcraft
Grian finds out that unfortunately the Noxcrew Grian-proofed the area, he can't mess with the banana boat
Joel doing a speech: we're just here to have good time. But if you idiots mess up and lose, Oli will play a sad song and we will not be okay guys. xD
Grian: the main goal is to make sure that Jimmy has the worst time.
Joel’s telling them that if they go against Aqua the others are gonna have to kill Lizzie; Grian says he’s probably ruined no matter what, if she dies in his presence he’ll be in trouble. Joel says he and Lizzie playing DB against each other did not go well.
Grian says Oli is Joel's ego, Joel says his ego is a lot bigger.
Post-Sky battle, Joel is 39th, Oli does the break entertainment/commentating ^^
Shane asking Joel in chat "what happened brother :(" and Joel saying he doesn't want to talk about it, he's fallen off. Shane asking if they can talk about it, Joel is nothing without him xD
SG: The rest of Lime is talking Grian out of rushing to kill Jimmy, Joel says he's too scared of FBM and Impulse confirms he's really good. Strategy talk, Grian: "Sorry I wasn’t listening I was thinking about killing Jimmy"
SG: I didn't realize the Lime/Yellow confrontation was started by Joel attacking Shane – very confident of him suddenly… aaand killed by Jimmy. Joel is fuming. "This is my worst MCC ever." Dan: "So far." xD
Joel whispered to Lizzie "babe I’m 40th what should I do." "will you still love me if im 40th"
Lizzie: "ick" xD Joel: "please still love me"
Clearly the facecam was the problem, so he turned it off. "It’s Ollie’s set up" "I won my last one!"
Short sad monologue with background piano music xD
Grian asked Oli to energize Joel, Ollie gave him a neck kiss for luck he’s revitalized. (It was actually a headphone kiss but y’know)
(I keep almost forgetting Dan is on this team? I assume they know him well and are comfortable?)
PKW: the audience believes in Lime! Grian: Are they stupid?
The brief glimpses of facecam are very funny.
Joel got 8th in PKW and went from 40th to 29th, not bad ^^ and Lizzie in whispers calls him a parkour master, aww
Grian sings at the start of Ace Race, sadly gets distracted ^^ They all did pretty well at that. Impulse stopped early because he mistook the portal for the finish line and dropped a few places, oh noo ^^
Grian: "No they beat us again! Jimmy beat us!"
Oli’s DJing during the break (not a lot of lyrics but still funny) and he even got Joel to sing a bit. Grian put his chat on hold xD
Empires group pic, nice.
postMD: Grian mostly wants to know if he has a chance to catch up with Jimmy ^^
Lime had a talk on when to congratulate Jimmmy: "Let’s wait he could still fall off"
Post-GR: Grian, delightedly: We could see Jimmy in the finals! Didn't end up happening, but still.
Next was MCC Rising 3, where I switched between team perspectives, it was fun but I didn't bother taking notes. …and I didn't take notes for the rest of the season 4 events either, mostly out of laziness, though I did watch them.
MCC Twitch Con San Diego: Scar on the Lime Llamas with Pearl, Tango, and Feinberg
Another live event! And Tango back in MCC! It was fun. They ended up coming 4th, not bad. Also the source of that one photo in blue lighting where Scar looks even hotter than normal.
MCC Haunted Hoedown: Grian on the Green Goblins with Joel Smallishbeans, Hbomb, and aCookieGod
Grian filled in for Jimmy because Jimmy was sick, even though Grian was sick too only less so, but Joel asked him (pretty sure there were references to puppy eyes.) It was obvious that Grian wasn't on top of his game (more mood-wise than gameplay-wise tbh) but they still did quite well.
MCC Party 2: Scar on the Green Geckos, with jojosolos, fWhip, and Philza
The first time Scar and Phil really interacted, that was nice. A fun team. I was really torn between watching them and the reunion of the Lords, so it was fun that these two teams clashed often :) Green eliminated Pink in Survival Games (bird on bird violence when Phil killed Grian – I think Phil said that but not sure) and twice in Meltdown, where Green did very well in the second and third round. Scar finally got to play Build Mart!
The point system for this event was a kind of connect-four game played in-between games. The rules were confusing and it took very long, taking the momentum out of the event, and I was so tired I went to bed halfway through the live event. I don't think anyone was really a fan of it. Rare Noxcrew L, as iirc Phil put it. It made catching up hard too. At one point a bug gave points to Aqua that should have gone to Green, so at the end fWhip (who coordinated the connect four for Green) decided to make a move specifically to take points away from Aqua, which ended up getting Orange (Gem, Impulse, Scott, Antfrost) into Dodgebolt, nice. They ended up winning, too.
Lord Grian Dreamslayer on the PinkParrots Lords, with Lord Joel Jumperman, Lord Martyn Moneymaker, and Lord Jimmy Top Placer
The Return of the Lords! I only watched about half of this but it was fun. Unexpectedly they only got second in Build Mart ;) Second in Grid Runners, too, and first (!) in TGTTOS and (!) in Ace Race! They ended up in fifth, and someone in reddit made a graph showing that Pink was the team who lost the most with the new points system, iirc they would have been third otherwise. Ah well.
Huh, just realized, out of five season 4 events where he qualified, Grian played in three of them. Nice :)
That was season 4! Fun times. I watched some other Minecraft events during that time – Pandora's Box, parts of Squidcraft, some speedrunning tournaments – but MCC is special, and I look forward to the new season.
I'm very glad the MCC VOD Archive spreadsheet exists, very helpful.

Lord Grian Dreamslayer on the Pink
