schneefink: a pink cat lying relaxed on its side with clover growing on it (Dice Disasters Teacup)

In three days it will have been three years since we started our cat TTRPG campaign! It might be an exaggeration to say joining that campaign was one of the best things to ever happen to me, but not much of one. I found a great friend group through it.

One of the players is leaving to spend a year in Japan soon, so we put the campaign on pause until they come back. We're going to play a short campaign of "Stars Without Numbers" in the meantime, which I've never played before and I'm excited for it.
Before they left we managed to get to a good stopping point in our adventures, so I thought now is a good point to give an update :) I haven't done that in two years for some reason so a lot has happened.

A while ago we encountered some Awakened rats, including a mad ~scientist who'd been creating new kinds of magically modified rats just because she could. We persuaded her to make them for a coliseum of sorts instead of just releasing them into the sewers and that we would come back to fight so she could test them out. Which we were planning to do!, we just, uh, got sidetracked...
We also adopted a puppy.

There were some smaller side quests, and along the way we befriended a cat who's a human researcher. She's been studying a group of humans that have been acting oddly, including stealing artifacts and setting other people on fire. We followed them into their lair and managed to interrupt them in the middle of a demon summoning ritual, which we failed to prevent, but the demon summoned was still sufficiently annoyed by our interference that she sent us into the Lower Hells. There we encountered some kind of high-ranking trickster demon who sent us on quests for her amusement, and upon completion sent us back to the normal world. We found out that the humans who'd summoned the demon had all died, but the demon herself left the city. Our researcher friend found some information about her and strongly assumes she'll be back to try and destroy the city eventually.

My character found a good bow among the loot along the way and decided to give back the bow she stole from another cat a while ago. Unfortunately that cat, very angry about the theft of his personal belongings, wasn't satisfied to just get it back without finding out who stole it and was convinced MC knew who it'd been (true), and could only be convinced to let it lie if our group would join his sailing crew on a treasure hunt. So we went on a treasure hunt across the sea!

First we had to collect the rest of the map, because of course the captain only had one piece of a map that's been torn apart. We had a very cool battle against a ship of dog pirates in the middle of a storm, which we won by setting loose a giant ghost crab from a haunted music box we'd fished out of the sea. Of course we then had to battle the ghost crab ourselves after it turned on us.
We arrived at an island with a cat village, and they told us about a monster that lived in the middle of the island, by the source of the blood-red rivers. We decided to check it out anyway and discovered the "monster" was a feathered dragon who was actually very friendly and accompanied us in exploring various ruins of a long-lost ~lizardfolk civilization until we finally had all the keys to open the vault with the next part of the map. He even let each of us fly with him! And gave us some of his very very pretty feathers.
We also managed to convince him to accompany the ship on the rest of the treasure hunt. Along the way we discovered another dragon who'd been disguising herself as a hermit cat, which made him very happy. Together we fought and defeated a giant kraken. We found the treasure island, discovered the hidden mechanism to open the waterfall into the hidden grotto, and there we found the treasure, including a magical guardian statue for our home. (The rest of the crew seemed to be focused on the unique trees growing in the grotto...)
One of our group snuck into an area of the ship the rest of the crew had told us not to go into and they were quite angry their workshop was discovered (even though we have little idea what they are actually trying to build), but ultimately we managed to convince them that we didn't have bad intentions and when we got back to the city they even offered us an alliance.

After we got back to the city our researcher friend told us she'd found out that one half of an artifact created to restrain the escaped demon was in the possession of the cat empress of the city, and she'd managed to get us invites to the ball that evening so we could try and talk to her. We finally needed a clan name for that, and because our first suggestion "Ghost House Gang" didn't really fit the imperial ball vibe we went with "Dragon Feather Clan" instead ^^
We went to the ball wearing some of our acquired loot and managed to attract quite a bit of attention. The ball turned out to be in honor of two cats' marriage, at which point we stopped IRL to toast the two members of our group who'd had a spontaneous court house wedding the week before :)
We got an invite to the empress' private soiree, got into her good graces by telling exciting stories about some of our adventures, and ultimately managed to convince her to trade us the artifact for some of our treasure loot. She even invited us to come back again to tell more stories, success.

And that's where we'll pick up again in a year or so. I look forward to it, and I also look forward to the campaign we'll be playing in the meantime. Also our DM was gifted the D&D lego set and that comes with campaign notes and we want to play that too at some point, and probably some board games too on occasion, and we'll see what else :)
