2012, I didn't write a lot but I had fun
Jan. 5th, 2013 04:16 pmHappy New Year everyone! I came back from Berlin this morning and I'm absolutely incapable of writing about how amazing WUDC was yet (debates! people!) I just have a lot of sentences that look strange out of context (rabbit, child labor, burning car, nukes, potatoes, schedule?, lemons...) and forty pages of debate notes. Maybe when I've had more sleep.
In the meantime the
sga_santa Masterlist was posted, so I can do a fannish year review.
I only wrote two stories this year:
The Court of Athos, for the prompt "Name" on
sga_saturday
A re-telling of "The Rising": what if Teyla were a queen? I'm mostly satisfied with the story and I still really like the idea.
Next Time Bring Candles, Food, for
sga_santa
An accident leaves Teyla and some others alone somewhere in Atlantis trying to find their way back. Of course it's never that easy.
A gen Teyla POV adventure fic that I really enjoyed writing. Maybe because I was just writing for fun and not trying to express anything in particular. I'm quite happy with how it turned out.
I also wrote two very short comment fics in German: Gunnerkrigg Court, Kat/Annie, erster Kuss and Firefly, River, Vorahnung.
It's not a lot, but I'm fine with it. The only thing I regret is that I dropped out of the
sga_genficathon. I had two different ideas centering around Elizabeth Weir and time travel/telepathy, but both were too complicated and didn't really go anywhere. In retrospect I think the problem was that they wanted to be stories about Elizabeth, but weren't, not quite. The next fic I'm planning is the Elizabeth-centric sequel to "Court of Athos", and I think this can be "my" Elizabeth story that I want to tell. If I manage it, it'll probably be more complicated than anything else I've ever written, but also hopefully very interesting. At least to me.
SGA is still my main fandom. Evidence: when I go to places and think "this would make a great AU" my first cast is always SGA.
But I'm reading and watching more in other fandoms, too. Among others I've watched Leverage, Doctor Who, Elementary, and Gundam Wing, and I finally listened to Cabin Pressure in Berlin and it's a lot of fun. I've read several stories in other fandoms like Avengers, Hockey RPF (I don't know either) and Teen Wolf (I only started because I found the stories via pinboard, but I don't really know why I keep reading them. I don't even like Derek/Stiles, wtf brain stop clicking those links.)
I talked to more people about fandom offline! M., and just a few days ago another M. was very surprised that I knew what AMVs were. I met
frith_in_thorns,
cesy,
naye, and
doctorskuld, which was brilliant and I want to do it again immediately. I acquired a tiny bit more fannish stuff for my room: I now have a Ronon action figure, a SGA key ring (both courtesy of
estefee), and tiny crocheted Cthulhu on my desk.
I'm probably forgetting something, but a year is quite long...
RL-wise, uni is going so-so, my driving license same, debating is fantastic (more in the WUDC post), OTW work is weird, and I have some plans for 2013 but mostly a lot of homework for the next few days.
A huge thank you to all of you for being around. <3 Your posts, comments, postcards, and the knowledge that I could get virtual hugs if I really needed them cheered me up many times when I could use it very much. I hope 2013 will be a good year for all of you and I wish you good fortune, health, confidence, and warmth for you and your loved ones. *hugs*
