I went to see "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" today. I was expecting to see "hot people in leather kicking ass", and that's exactly what I got. Hansel and Gretel were both badass. There was a lot of blood and gore but thankfully it wasn't focused on - I'd feared more after the trailers were all for horror movies and really hard to watch. But the movie was action-violent instead of scary-violent, and that I can deal with. (I only had to look away for the maggots, ew.)

There were some things that could have been better: Mina as a witch should have been much more careful to get involved with Hansel, or be consistently presented as more calculating, so that's now my headcanon. Ben "cleaning" Gretel was rightly shown as creepy, and in my head after the movie ends there are several scenes where she doesn't put up with his creepiness. I wanted a bit more about Edward, but it was just enough for me to have my own theories. The gingerbread house was more candy than gingerbread and looked quite silly, but so did many witches. It didn't make sense for Hansel to keep walking through the forest (at night!) instead of heading back to the village after his rendezvous with Mina at the pond, but whatever, maybe he got lost *handwaves* I'm not the biggest fan of Ben, but maybe he'll get better or they'll leave him behind.

Things I liked: Hansel and Gretel being badass and snarky and protective of each other and only winning together and hugging, awww, sibling love. I liked the 3D effects, they didn't seem as pasted on as in some other movies and mostly worked quite nicely. It wasn't a hugely intelligent plot, but it was fine. An uncomplicated movie with just enough holes for me to fill in with my own theories.

I already have several AO3 tabs open (had to filter out the Avengers crossovers and incest fics first), I hope there are some good ones already (recs welcome.) What I most want to read right now is futurefic with Hansel and Gretel - what if one of them wants to settle down one day? Unlikely, I know, but for some reason I really want either one of them paired with an OC and then slow romance and some sibling conflict (and a few witches) and a happy ending. Or any other way for them to grow old together, or even tragic deathfic for some reason. Hm, I'll see what I can find (or write...)

I can't be the only person who first thing in the morning checks her emails, right? -.- It's hard to get up in the morning and my phone is right next to the bed...
Anyway, this morning I woke up and found out that Iginla was traded to the Pens and was very surprised, and then I realized that I had actual opinions about this and was even more surprised. I have no idea how this happened. That's not quite true, I followed recs from pinboard and read a few fics and then watched a few highlight reels and then - no, still no idea why. Why do I have Hockey RPF fic ideas (I want all the Geno gen but probably can't write it), how did this happen. I'm not looking forward to the playoffs, it won't be good for my nerves. (Or my time management, ahaha. No, self, you will not try to go to a game of the Austrian playoffs that are currently happening in Vienna, you have to study.)

I enjoyed it too! I hope *fingers crossed* that you'll write something for this movie because there's almost nothing, as you'll sadly find out, and I really wanna read fic. It's a fun universe to play in! A ragtag team of witch slayers! Why is there not more fic?!

I didn't get to watch the movie in the theatre because it was on in the middle of the night. So I have to wait for the DVD release. I mean, I already watched a cam copy but I want to watch it properly.
