Space battles, wheee

The funny thing about watching Gundam Seed right after Teen Wolf is that the plot makes sense - so far!
Thoughts 15 episodes on, with spoilers:
- I like that neither side in the war is portrayed as right or wrong. If I understood correctly the Earth Alliance made the first strike, I assume we'll get some Earth politics later, but there's no clear good vs. evil. War is terrible, but each side thinks they're right and fighting for a just cause.
- Fear of and prejudice against the "other" as main plot points :)
- Kira might be a coordinator and he's obviously a bright student, but he's not a trained fighter, and it's clear that he has a lot of trouble fighting against the ZAFT soldiers and a lot of luck to get away with what he does. (Contrast to Gundam Wing: all the pilots are trained and not just better because of their suits, see e.g. Trowa undercover.)
- For the first few episodes Kira fought to protect his friends in a situation they didn't choose. Then they could have left (and would have died, but he didn't know that) but his friends chose to stay: Fray because she wants revenge for her father, Sai because of Fray and then Miri and Tolle and Kuzzey (?) to stay with them, and because they are all Naturals and have latent sympathies with the Earth forces. They didn't know what to do and where to live now that Heliopolis is destroyed.
Kira is more complicated: Athrun tries to tell him that as a coordinator he has to be on ZAFT's side, la Flaga tells him he should try to make a difference, he wants to not fight but protect his friends, and ultimately he chooses to fight on Earth's side because he tells himself he wants to end the war. True, without him Archangel would be lost and Earth would be at a grave disadvantage, but if he really wants to end the war he probably didn't think this all the way through...
Also given that his friends are a major reason why he chose this side, their prejudices and Fray's wish for revenge etc. will hit all the harder.
- Ramius & Badgiruel are great, how they both are competent and well-meaning but clash all the time, I hope we get more of that.
- I like Athrun and Lacus, they seem sweet. I hope Lacus has a major role later on. I also like Nicol so far, but not Yzak, and not sure yet about Dearka.
- People have started dying (Miguel and Rusty of le Krueze's team and Fray's father who had personal impact on the main characters, but also the 8th fleet and the civilian shuttle during the battle around Archangel's descent to Earth.) Given that "war is terrible" is a central theme, I wonder who else is going to die...
