schneefink: (FF Kaylee in hammock)
I decided to bake today because I was stressed. I like baking and chocolate muffins usually make anything better. But I decided to try something new, promptly screwed it up, and then it was just frustrating. That did not go as planned. I have no idea what happened to the first batch of chocolate to make it look that funny, and I broke a glass I liked (that was not the recipe, that was me being stupid. Who puts a glass into a pot of hot water, why did I do that.) The chocolate muffins weren't good enough to make up for the hassle, not even with the strawberries. We got some strawberry tiramisu from our neighbours, that was good, but it's not the same when I didn't make it myself.

I'm sorry game 7 Hawks-Ducks starts comparatively early for West Coast games tonight, otherwise I could have woken up early tomorrow to watch the ending. I'm not sure who I'm rooting for: I'd prefer the Ducks over the Hawks if not for the fact that I want Tampa to get the Cup and I think Chicago's defense might make them the easier SCF opponent. We'll see.

I cancelled choir practice, which was a good idea because it turned out I'm not as recovered from being sick as I hoped. But I got some work done yesterday, that was nice. (Not yet today, but I still have a few hours.) Data is annoying: why does an institute base their unemployment rate on the total population instead of the economically active population?, that makes no sense.

A dreamwidth friending meme is currently going on here. I like meeting new people :)

[personal profile] nanslice is hosting a Gundam Wing rewatch! I'm planning to watch the first two episodes tomorrow, I'm really looking forward to it.

[community profile] writteninsweat is a comm where you post your physical accomplishments (running etc.), give prompts, and hopefully get some fic. Atm it's mostly hockey-centric, and it's slowing down, but I really like the idea. Unfortunately I can't post right now because I'm not running, but I have X-rays next week and hopefully soon.

I finished watching Gundam Seed!
I wanted to do a long post about all the things I loved about it (so many!) but now that I actually finished it it's suddenly hard to do. The characters! The plot & background! The pairings, all the pairings that I wanted actually happened in canon I was so surprised & happy.
Spoilers )

Atm it doesn't look like I'll be inspired to write fic for it, it's nice and self-contained. Maybe I'll check out Gundam Seed Destiny later: I'm a bit hesitant after how disappointed I was with Endless Waltz, but it seems to have good ratings.

In the meantime I somehow started watching Lost Girl. I enjoyed the first three episodes very much and am looking forward to more. :)

After next week, because I'm doing a sightseeing tour to Linz and Innsbruck with a friend and I'm slowly starting to do some university stuff again. I took another look at a chapter I thought was almost finished and I'll need to rewrite it extensively, and I should have finished it a month ago... Oh well.

The funny thing about watching Gundam Seed right after Teen Wolf is that the plot makes sense - so far!

Thoughts 15 episodes on, with spoilers:
- I like that neither side in the war is portrayed as right or wrong. If I understood correctly the Earth Alliance made the first strike, I assume we'll get some Earth politics later, but there's no clear good vs. evil. War is terrible, but each side thinks they're right and fighting for a just cause.
- Fear of and prejudice against the "other" as main plot points :)
- Kira might be a coordinator and he's obviously a bright student, but he's not a trained fighter, and it's clear that he has a lot of trouble fighting against the ZAFT soldiers and a lot of luck to get away with what he does. (Contrast to Gundam Wing: all the pilots are trained and not just better because of their suits, see e.g. Trowa undercover.)
- For the first few episodes Kira fought to protect his friends in a situation they didn't choose. Then they could have left (and would have died, but he didn't know that) but his friends chose to stay: Fray because she wants revenge for her father, Sai because of Fray and then Miri and Tolle and Kuzzey (?) to stay with them, and because they are all Naturals and have latent sympathies with the Earth forces. They didn't know what to do and where to live now that Heliopolis is destroyed.
Kira is more complicated: Athrun tries to tell him that as a coordinator he has to be on ZAFT's side, la Flaga tells him he should try to make a difference, he wants to not fight but protect his friends, and ultimately he chooses to fight on Earth's side because he tells himself he wants to end the war. True, without him Archangel would be lost and Earth would be at a grave disadvantage, but if he really wants to end the war he probably didn't think this all the way through...
Also given that his friends are a major reason why he chose this side, their prejudices and Fray's wish for revenge etc. will hit all the harder.
- Ramius & Badgiruel are great, how they both are competent and well-meaning but clash all the time, I hope we get more of that.
- I like Athrun and Lacus, they seem sweet. I hope Lacus has a major role later on. I also like Nicol so far, but not Yzak, and not sure yet about Dearka.
- People have started dying (Miguel and Rusty of le Krueze's team and Fray's father who had personal impact on the main characters, but also the 8th fleet and the civilian shuttle during the battle around Archangel's descent to Earth.) Given that "war is terrible" is a central theme, I wonder who else is going to die...

That was disappointing.

Nothing made any sense. )

I'll ignore as much of this as I want to in my head.

I finished Gundam Wing! I didn't get much of anything done this weekend but I don't really care, that was fantastic. Right now I'm full of squee and enthusiasm and I want to talk about everything, wasn't it great? But I do have to sleep and do homework (not in that order) sometimes, so this will only be part one of possibly many.
I even tried to make an icon - in ten minutes and I gave up on gimp at this time of the day, but still, Relena <3
Needless to say everything here is full of spoilers.

Gundam Wing: my favorite scenes, things I love, things I find interesting, things that could have been better )

And now there's still Endless Waltz to watch and other additional stuff, and then the fanworks! \o/

No spoilers for anything beyond the series, please.
schneefink: River walking among trees, from "Safe" (Moya)
I vaguely remember seeing a few episodes of Gundam Wing on TV many years ago. Not too many years ago, because I think I did read some fanfic, but very little. Then a few days ago I found a rec for a Stargate/GW crossover fic and I decided to watch it again. Great decision! I didn't remember it being this good.

NO SPOILERS beyond episode 24, please! )

Other TV shows I'm currently watching (or not):
Borgen )

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries )

Elementary )

Farscape )

SGA )

Of course right when I finally decide to go to bed [community profile] atlantisbigbang goes live. To sleep or not to sleep...
