The Elemental Logic series is finally finished! It was so nice to return to Shaftal and meet all these character I love again :)

Unfortunately I didn't like the new characters as much – I liked Anders, but I wasn't really interested in Chaen or Tashar, or Maxew. I felt similarly about e.g. Seth, but at least with her I knew why she was here, and I sort of got that eventually with Chaen and Maxew (though I think it might have been more effective with Maxew's PoV instead of Chaen's), but even at the end I had little idea what the point of Tashar was, which is not a good sign.

J'han :( At least he was there when Zanja rescued Leeba, that was a nice moment.
And Emil almost died, but fortunately he made it.

While the reveal that the enemy was in their own house was effective, I didn't like how incompetent it made Norina look. Saugus, I could understand - it's always possible to encounter an enemy more powerful than oneself, though I'd have thought that memory manipulation on such a massive scale would attract attention especially when they were already paranoid because of the assassination attempt. But Maxew? Not realizing that her own student/apprentice is a traitor is a pretty glaring mistake. And it got J'han killed. Not many people know (iirc) and even fewer will dare blame her, but probably nobody could blame her more than she blames herself anyway.

Overall the plot led to many very nice moments, though it seemed a bit, hm, shallow in places; I think maybe because I never really got a grasp on Saugus, who was responsible for pretty much all of it.

I still really like the family – Karis and Zanja and Emil and Medric and Norina and Leeba, now. And Garland, sorta. Especially Karis/Zanja, and Emil/Medric, and Garland/care-taking and also finding a girlfriend, and Leeba/feeling safe, and all of them/happiness.
(Thinking about it more I feel really sorry for Norina, because she doesn't get along that well with Zanja and Emil and Medric, nor is she close friends with Garlan, and she and Karis are close but they have a lot of baggage. Now that J'han is dead… it'll be hard. She's also responsible for her students, and that won't be easy after what just happened either.)

The Ashawala'i made it! Because of Arel na'Tarwein – I should have suspected, with the time travel, but didn't at all. Very nice. But they're a different Zanja's – water logic is complicated. Still, finding Brama as the next Speaker and taking him on as a student is a very nice point to leave her at :)

I read this as an ebook and something was wrong with the file, the pages took very long to load and near the end the file crashed every few pages, which was very annoying. Physical books have some very clear advantages.
