Out of curiosity, and to confirm something:
(For the purpose of this poll, "fandom-adjacent" means whatever you want it to mean; I mostly thought about things like "I have/had several friends in the fandom and have seen/heard them talk about it without being in the fandom myself.")

There's no ticky for "Yes, and I read almost all of it" or "Yes, and I used to write it."

what was it? what does it mean?

I was adjacent to SGA but never heard of it until now. Did it have something to do with Rodney's allergy?

I was there. It was unavoidable. (I very much wanted to avoid it, but alas ...)

If you're talking about h/c involving Rodney's allergy, I remember seeing it just as often tagged "lemon fic" which was. Extremely misleading.

Though thanks to the other comments, I now have an idea about what it's supposed to mean *facepalm*.

No, and I was in SGA fandom - though, guessing from the other comments, probably because I was almost exclusively in the femslash circles, so Rodney was unlikely to come up.

Apparently starting in April 2010? Though I was always more of a lurker. I did write recs, though.

I was going to say no and no and I was in the fandom/still read or reread the occasional fic there, but checking what this is in the comments revealed I (I think I) know this trope, just not that it was, like, A Whole Thing. Huh.

Oh right! Man I'd completely forgotten there was a whole genre of "nobody loves me, everybody hates me, guess I'll go eat worms" Rodney fic that people associated with the lemon chicken. There was like a trope namer where John fed him some on purpose and/or he ate it on purpose as self-harm, wasn't there?

(I mostly interacted by avoiding it, and when I did want people hating Rodney, I looked specifically for "Post-Trinity" stuff because it tended to be slightly more IC.)

I was mainly into McShep and Sheppard-centric gen, and I saw a LOT of it. So much shunning and whump heaped on Rodney, so much of everyone else grovelling afterwards! Not at all my cup of tea, alas.

I wasn't sure if I was thinking of the right thing because I most often remember hearing it called post-Trinity fic in the circles I was in - even if it was just the general concept (Shunned By Your Terrible Friends) and not actually dealing with Trinity at all. But I did guess correctly, lol. A lot of fandoms have this, but IIRC SGA might be the only one that built a sort of culture around it. (Well, okay, in MCU the Team Steve/Team Tony thing kinda has that air about it too.)

And I'm back!

Fascinating!

There was a similar type of story in SG-1 where Daniel is down on himself and feeling unappreciated and useless and then something happens and in the aftermath he is hugged and praised by everyone and realizes how wonderful everyone thinks he is. But it never got a genre name and it lacks the canon impetus of the actual screw-up, as seen in Trinity.

Kind of an interesting subset of the woobie trope!
