Several weeks ago I went to a concert with my parents (Franui & Habjan – Georg Kreisler Liederabend), it was a nice evening. As an encore Nikolaus Habjan whistled something, I forgot what song but it was really cool. Ever since then every once in a while I practice whistling, and to my own surprise I'm having a lot of fun. And practice helps a lot! My range has grown noticeably, and I think I got much better at hitting the right notes too, and getting clearer notes. My mom told me that she can't whistle at all anymore, which surprised me, but I'm sure she'd relearn it pretty quickly. I mostly practice on my walk home, I'm a bit worried about annoying people but if I'm walking past at least nobody has to hear me for very long.

Whistling is easier on my throat than singing, too, which as someone who gets paranoid when I wake up with a sore throat on cold days I appreciate.

Hee, I love the idea of whistling championships. :D Your whistling practice sounds really cool - so neat that you can chart your growing range and the clarity of the notes!

I had no idea something like that existed - though it shouldn't have been a surprise, iirc there's championships for free-hand circle drawing.

Charting is an exaggeration, I just noticed some songs became easier to whistle :)

I tried whistling recently and realized I had totally forgotten how-- it was strangely panic inducing to try and have nothing come out! Thankfully I figured out I how to do it again fairly quickly (I had my mouth positioned wrong.)

The only other way to whistle I learned was with a blade of grass, I should try if I can still do that.
