Young Avengers: Children's Crusade
Apr. 24th, 2014 02:15 pmAKA "The Young Avengers are in waaaay over their head, and the adults are stupid."
So in between the vol.1 and this, which is a few months at most, they fight in a superhero civil war, a secret invasion of Earth, and a siege of Asgard - pretty busy! And spoilers told me that some pretty bad stuff happened. I hope they're all in therapy, so much therapy, wow.
The Avengers (finally) become scared of Billy's power - seriously, it's not standard practice to examine young mages and find out what they're capable of? It's fucking magic, people, it's dangerous! Not impressed.
Billy does interior decorating now? Nice.
Okay, the YA breaking Billy and Teddy out and then the Avengers find them talking with Magneto is not a good picture, but Wolverine threatening to, or maybe actually trying to kill Billy - wtf? And that guy is on the Avengers? Not impressed.
So then Billy knows he can't trust the Avengers to help, and he wants to find Wanda because a) he thinks she's his mom, b) maybe she can put right what she did, and c) if it wasn't her fault then maybe that means there's hope that Billy won't go crazy and do a similar thing. Not a bad reason.
There are some hilarious lines, btw. Billy and Teddy are adorable dorks ("I'm not talking anymore. As of now. That was the last talking", awww. "You're kind, you're generous, you threaten to maim people for me..." Poor Teddy, trying to take care of his idiot boyfriend) and even Tommy and Magneto and Quicksilver are funny. (Tommy is faster than Quicksilver, heh.)
Surprise Doctor Doom! They're in waaaay over their head.
And suddenly the Avengers are there and it's a big fight, oops.
Nate appeared because the time stream said Billy was in danger, so Wolverine was going to kill Billy? Fuck you, Wolverine.
Cassie can switch between large and small, but I don't think she's utilizing it as well as she could. Similarly Teddy. They all need more training.
Scott Lang is back, and then Wanda! Wheee! Who is overwhelmed by what happened (understandably) and tries to kill herself, lovely. Fortunately Billy can stop her.
Uh, Scott Summers? Seems like a vengeful idiot to me. No plan, no time for negotiating, rushing in and risking a fight between the X-Men and the Avengers without even trying to solve it otherwise - seriously, that guy leads the X-Men? Not impressed.
And great plan, Emma, attacking Wanda's sons right in front of her. Bravo. *shakes head*
And Eli thinks waiting for the Avengers and the X-Men will help figure things out, you naive boy. Not that his concerns weren't valid, but still.
Doctor Doom is weird - if Eli hadn't interrupted the ritual would actually have given the mutants their power back and Wanda would have kept hers, right? He might still have intended to steal or somehow use Wanda's powers later, but still. I wonder how much he actually felt for Wanda. Shouldn't her powers allow her to tell the truth from lies?
Super!Doom, wonderful.
Tommy and Billy telling of Summers for being stupid and not having a plan and being a giant hypocrite, good.
Cassie!!!! :(((
And Vision :(((
And Nate :(( Nate, what are you doing. Mad with grief, and probably jealousy, but still.
Huh, interesting that Tommy takes shared responsibility for the whole fiasco. It really wasn't his fault. Brotherly solidarity?
Kate not wanting to rebuild the Vision because Cassie's gone: uh, shouldn't that be for him to decide? It's true that he says that he can't imagine a world without Cassie in it, but I'm pretty sure Kate didn't even hear that. (Also why can't Billy magically repair the robot tech? He doesn't have to know what he's doing when he's healing someone.)
Eli quits because he feels guilty and doesn't want to make any more mistakes... he's seventeen, it's more than believable. They've been through a lot in the past few months, he deserves a break.
Same with Kate. But Tommy's right when he says they'll be back.
Billy thinking he's the bad guy, oh Billy. And Teddy goes along with it because he thinks it won't be for long.
Tommy is the one who wants to keep the team together because he doesn't know what else to do, poor Tommy. I wonder what he's doing in the next few months? (Give me stories, hint hint.)
Months, really? And his parents didn't force him to go to therapy? It helps, really. The engagement scene was very sweet, but that alone won't suddenly solve everything, it's still going to be a process.
What's with Cap ordering them back to the Mansion and making them official Avengers?! It makes no sense. Well, if Kate and Tommy expressed a desire to go back to superhero-ing in the meantime, which is very likely, okay. But Billy and Teddy? They're not needed right this minute, and shouldn't Cap be happy if they decide to stay safe and be normal teenagers for now? And what about their concerns about Billy's powers, are they at least getting him an apprenticeship, because otherwise this is so so stupid. Still not impressed with the adult Avengers.
