schneefink: a pink cat lying relaxed on its side with clover growing on it (Dice Disasters Teacup)
I was idly going through my fic snippets folder and came across a Dice Disasters fic from November 2020 that was 90% finished, I had just meant to listen to a few episodes again to double-check some NPC names. I thought about finally doing that, only to find out that the podcast episodes are no longer online :( And I had forgotten to download them. I miss that podcast, it was so much fun.
So I decided to post the fic:

In the Dream Grove
1.9k, gen, Jasmin & Cody
Summary: Jasmin and Cody can't sleep and keep each other company.
Author's notes: I have feelings about Jasmin and Cody and the inevitable heartbreak of leaving one world behind for another, and also about panther!Jasmin. Have I mentioned I miss that podcast.
schneefink: Billy sitting down looking sad (YA sad Billy)
So Dice Disasters won't continue after the hiatus :(((
"Irreconcilable differences among the cast," I know that can happen but man it sucks. The world and the characters were so great and had so much potential and so much story still to tell! I was just waiting for the hiatus to end so I could try and get everyone else to listen too *sighs*
(The rough versions of the next three episodes will be posted on Patreon, so there will be a little more, at least, and there is a small chance it will continue but without the entire original cast, but I wanted all of it!!)
I still have a mostly-finished fic and several more snippets, and so many more ideas, and so much I wanted to find out. Of course I can and probably will still post them but it's not the same.
Uugh I'm sad -.-

As a distraction, I destroyed some more undead monsters. Day 3 of playing Hades, slow progress is being made )

My plan is to write at least 200 words each day in November, so far so good.

In September I wrote a bunch of snippets from the same AU and then recently realized that hey, if I edit this just a little it's basically an actual story:
There Are No Emperors
Skyjacks Star Wars fusion. This was a lot of fun. Set during the Clone Wars because the initial idea was "Nodoze would totally be Gable's clone commander."
I thought I had an ending, but during editing I came up with a better idea which means I have to rewrite it now and that's hard, so it's still a WIP (2/3), but I hope to post the third chapter soon.

I also posted two more Dice Disasters snippets: one about Cody's sister and the one where Erica is a D&D player. It's such a tiny fandom but I always get comments and that makes me happy and is very motivating.

There's an active shooter situation in central Vienna and I'm just like *deep breath* fucking 2020, man.

Earlier today I updated my collection of Dice Disasters snippets with a short speculative scene with Max and Pickles about the burning question of spoiler ): here.
I plan to keep updating on Mondays so I have something to look forward to on Mondays. The scene for next week is already written.

Happy Austrian National Day! For about another hour and a half. Instead of the normal opportunity to go visit the Hofburg (for some reason I've never been), this year our president released a drone video, fun.

I also posted the first of hopefully several short Dice Disasters snippets, here. One of the main characters, Jasmin, being from Vienna was one of the reasons why I was interested in the podcast to begin with, and that Jasmin ended up one of my favorites was a nice bonus. Jasmin's and my experiences of Vienna aren't the same - for example, she's not white, and she's from a rich family - but I still enjoy thinking about what her favorite places to hang out etc. might have been. For my daily writing exercises I've been writing quite a bit of Dice Disasters, so for today I edited the one where Jasmin is very typically Viennese: with strong opinions on coffee and especially water.

I only wanted to listen to one episode of "Dice Disasters" today because I really need to get some work for uni done, but then episode 29 ended on an amazing cliffhanger - spoilers for 29-31 )

I'm finally caught up now! I'm definitely going to request Dice Disasters for Yuletide :D Great timing that they're starting a hiatus just as I'm catching up, but can't be helped.

I'm not going to request Skyjacks though. I was planning to for the past few months, but I'm still disappointed by what happened in episode 80, and the episodes after that were good but didn't alleviate my concerns, and I don't want to request a fandom that I'm concerned that I'll lose my enthusiasm for before reveals, that'd feel unfair.

I don't 100% know what I want to offer yet, there are some fandoms I'm contemplating but don't want to commit to before seeing some letters, but there are several that I'm excited about offering so I'm sure it'll be fun.

I liked the post about DNWs on [community profile] yuletide_admin, helpful. It also reminded me to opt-in for interactive fiction, jic. I think IF could work especially well for an RPG-based canon: instead of readers making choices, you could tell them to roll dice :)

Things I have been consuming:

Taskmaster, a UK comedy panel show. I first heard about it when [archiveofourown.org profile] sabinelagrande started writing RPF about it, and only later found out that it's actually hilarious. I usually have a big problem with second-hand-embarrassment so I was initially hesitant, but it was never a problem here. The tasks are so random and fun, the casts are hilarious, and it's just overall very cheerful. I started watching random tasks, and now I'm watching from the beginning. I'm in the middle of series 3 and enjoy it a lot.

Dice Disasters, an actual play D&D podcast that DD recommended to me. The premise is that five people from our world - four young adults and a kid - wake up in a fantasy world with magic. It took a while for me to get into: the plot moves quite slowly, though I did always like the game and cast and characters a lot.
And then episode 22 had a few character scenes that I really lovedfor example ), and I've just finished episode 23 in which exciting things happen ) and I love it a lot. DD promises that it only gets better, so I'm trying to catch up in time for Yuletide sign-ups.
I will also definitely ramble more about my feelings for all of the characters later but I'll stop procrastinating for now. (I also baked things! I've definitely made much worse procrastination choices.)
